• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Gators on the Road

I just got home from a 2600 mile road trip from Delaware to Florida and back with a few side trips (in the car, not the bike unfortunately), and I was amazed at the number of tire carcasses I saw and hit along the way! One trucker had a blowout a few hundred yards in front of me that sent everyone around him scurrying for the shoulder and the median! This was my first trip south in the past couple of years but it just seems like this is more of a problem than it used to be. Is it the tire industry, the roads, or just me (or a combination of all three)? :dontknow:

And to keep this motorcycle related, I think we can all see how this is more a threat to two and three wheelers than others. Also, I only passed two :spyder2:'s during the whole trip; one north of Daytona on 95 last Friday, and one near Charlotte, NC yesterday on 85.

last summer i was moving along at 70/75 mph on Rt 287 out from under a car in front of me came a full piece of recap, :yikes: hit it dead on with my Spyder. Both of my front wheels came off the ground. All i could think of was, good thing i wasn't on my VTX. Cracked the air dam i fix it with plastic weld. Your right seams like there's more recaps on the road then ever

I was driving on 95 once and watched a mattress fall off somebody's car. Glad I wasn't on a bike! Scared me enough in the car!:yikes:

In the summer months you usually see many more dead armadillos than you do recaps. ;)

Worst thing I have seen on I-95 so far was a car that came off the front wheel tow dolly it was on and proceeded to cross 3 lanes of traffic before it hit the ditch and the trees on the side of the interstate. I was quite a bit closer to that scene than I ever hope to be again.

I don't know what it is, but I am seeing a lot more semi-snakes (tire treads) lately, too. I hit one yesterday on my BMW. A ten footer, laying on its side crossways in the lane, suddenly appeared as the car in front passed over it. I had no place to go in my lane, and no time to look for an opening beside me. Luckily it didn't put me down or do any damage. If things like this don't make you a believer in ATGATT (all the gear, all the time), nothing will. Stuff like that can ruin your day. All-in-all I saw six complete tire treads on my 75 mile trip, not counting the little chunks. They were not there last week.

Makes perfect sense. In this poor economy everyone is trying to save a buck. Recaps are hell-of-lot cheaper than new ones.

That is a very good observation. I have actually seen signs on the side of the road advertising mounted used tires for $15 each. :yikes: This is the first time I can recall seeing anything like that before.

Was the one on I 85 near Charlotte heading North, Silver with Givi bags top and sides? Did he have really nice lights?

If so, that was me. I was just getting home into Charlotte from my 2500 mile Spyder trip.
