• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Gas Cap Spinning

Are any of you experiencing "spinning" of your gas cap. Not every time, but frequently, when I stop to put gas in Spydey I have trouble getting the gas cap off. I just thought it was my general clumsiness--but yesterday my husband took Spydey to work and AHA--he complained that he had trouble getting the gas cap off.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Other experiences?

I have experienced this. Seems when there is a substantial vacuum pulled on the tank, like when it is cold a day after a long ride, it is at its worst. Pushing on the cap while turning does seem to get it off, and being sure not to overtighten helps. Don't know a good answer unless they design a new cap.

I have had the same issue, I make sure I stop tightening once it starts to click. I'm taking it to the local parts store to see if they can match it up to a better qaulity.

I also have this issue from time to time.......Sometimes I wonder if I will get mine off......I find that if I hold my Tongue just right it comes right off:D

spark striker spinner tool

+It's happened to me a few times, and an extra strong grunt (in combination with a few choice words) has succeeded in opening it.

A leverage tool tucked away in the recesses of the trunk, just in case, might be a good idea for those with difficulty.

I'm thinking a spark striker should suffice. (With the sparker disabled, of course.) Whattya' think?

Ride on.

Thanks for the general consensus and Scotty's diagnostic. I've always been able to get it off--well sometimes Michael helps... I think I am going to go to the parts store and look for a replacement. If any of you have a spec for this, please let me know.

Thanks

Mine is doing the same thing......sometimes I'am almost afraid I will need to carry my very large pair of channelock pliers to remove it. I've had to grasp the cap with both hands along the side and squeeze as hard as I can to get it to stop spinning.

I found putting it on just to the first click, and pushing down hard on the cap while turning to remove it, helps.

+I think I may have misunderstood the question. (?)

Mine doesn't spin. I simply can't get it to spin OPEN sometimes without difficulty, almost as if the cap has vapor-locked itself closed. (Thus the choice words and grunt application...)

Ride on.
