Gas cap keeps spinning

Today I stopped for gas, when attempting to remove the gas cap it just kept spinning while making a slight grinding noise. Took several minutes of spinning before it caught and came off. I had this same problem one other time. I tried applying pressure while spinning no help and not sure why it eventually came off. Any ideas what causes this??

Mine is doing it also, I just ordered a new one as I think I broke mine.

I think you need to push down on it while unscrewing.

I tried applying pressure by pushing in as I tried to open it, no help.

There was a recall on gas caps but not for that reason. Make sure you got the new cap but if you did then your cap is defective. Check with the dealer about it. You do have to put pressure on it but should not be a problem...:gaah:

Bought a new 2014 rts first time getting gas' cap did same thing took back to b&b cycles in victorville cal they just gave me a new cap.when i pushed down first time it sound like it broke a bunch of teeth or gears then it just spind and spind almost could not get off to get gas had to push down as hard as i could to get off pain in the arse however if that is the only thing wrong so far its a great machine wish i had gone this route earlier.

if yo u squeeze the other edge like your opening a jar should work till you get a new one

Bad Gas Cap

I did not have my 2014 RT-L very long and the same thing happened to me. I went by the dealer and they gave me a new one and it has been fine. I guess these gas caps sometimes just break. If it had happened to my 2013 RT-L I would not have been too surprised as it did get pretty warm while riding it, but the one on this 2014 barely gets warm after riding for a couple of hours. It is what it is....JMHO

You should only tighten it till it clicks once. More than that and you may break it.

Any current auto gas cap will work. Check ur local junk yard or any auto store like AZ or Advance..............
