• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Garmin NUVI 550

I have a Zumo 550 - easy to use on the bike, with gloves on, and a slightly bigger screen. I didn't like the lack of buttons found on the NUVI.

Have used a Garmin Nuvi 550 for the last 3 years now. Works fine and has been in all types of rain, with no bad results. Went to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and back on my Goldwing, with no problems, and now resides on my RT/SE5. Even if it breaks tomorrow, it was money well spent versus paying outrageous prices for the ZUMOs. If you can get along without the bluetooth, it will do everything the Zumo does.
:D

Anyone using the Garmin NUVI 550?..It's a waterproof unit and much less expensive than the Zumo.

If you do not need Bluetooth connectivity or an audio out port on you GPS, and money is the limiting factor in your purchase of a GPS for the Spyder, you may want to consider buying an even less expensive unit than the Nuvi 550 and using a plastic bag to cover the unit in a rainstorm. I did that for many years on my previous ride with nary an issue.

I use the NUVI 550, powered by a Powerlet USB charger cable. No problems the last two years...if you can live with the lack of an audio output jack.

The Nuvi 550 is the way to go. Mount on the top and middle of dash, works and looks great. There is a lot of articles on the forum on how to mount it...

I use a Nuvi 550. It's taken us across the country. It has multiple modes, including a 'Scooter' mode which does an ok job routing you off the interstates on the fly. The icons are large enough that using gloves is no problem--at least for summer gloves. At first, I used batteries, but the battery life is only about 1/2 day in bright sunlight. So now I'm using the USB power adapter. All in all it's been a great alternative to the Zumo models.
