• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Garmin No America App on Iphone 4s...anyone tried?

Ok I'm in the duh brainwave mode...my ipod connector is in the rear trunk (2010 RT)...so do I need to add something up on dash area to accomodate the adaptor.
On the 2011 and 2012 you could use the bluetooth adapter from BRP and I know some folks have figured out how to do it on a 2010 with aftermarket bluetooth adapters. I take it you don't have the headset connector near the bars, not sure if that would work for input anyway but you could run an extension from the rear trunk to the iphone.

Some of those GPS apps(maybe all??) MUST have a cell signal to work. Noticed this on trip this summer when buddy was trying to use droid for GPS..... Kept losing signal and the it didn't track our position well at all.

IMO - nothing beats a dedicated GPS. Not to mention touchscreens on phones don't work well thru gloves.
I know for sure that you can load each state map you want on the Navagon so it's not downloading maps as you go but you would think it would have to have some sort of signal to work. :dontknow:

Have you tried the Navigon app?

Does anybody use the AT&T Navigator service for iPhones?

inquiring minds ....

I downed loaded the Navigon app that Lamont uses...haven't tried on Ms Spyder yet..but works great in my PU...will try using airplane mode and seeing what happens....I ryde a 2010 RT...have a 12v installed on my dash..use the LifeProof case on my iphone which is 100% waterproof...thinking maybe I can use the charger I use in PU to keep it charged as I ryde into the sunsets...can't try until roads clear...beautiful blue skies...cold 15...that doesn't stop me but that dang ice/packed snow on roads puts me in the cage and Ms Spyder in her stall all tethered up!!! Any other thoughts to help me work thru to my solution soooo appreciated...this is a dangerous time for my mind...not occupied ryding...so occupy it planning for next ryde!!!!! First long ryde will start mid April when I head for NovaScotia via Spyderfest 2012...so want this all up and working...otherwise I have visions of taking twice as many miles to get to my destination as I go round and round in circles...I have a totally non exisitant sense of direction...my best friend says I can get lost going from my garage to house (and they are attached!!!!:roflblack:)

I do.
I love the turn by turn, iPod integration and phone calls all on one device. I know the monthly fee deters some. And I have considered an app like the garmin where a one time fee would get the turn by turn. But the monthly fee isn't much more than what I used to spend going out for lunch one day and the maps are continually updated. Garmin may be too, I don't know.

The only down side I have had us on VERY stormy days. Not an issue on the Spyder usually, but has caused me problems in the truck before. Since I haven't used a dedicated GPS I don't know if they have a similar problem. But I would think that satellite connections would be affected on those days too?

Anyway, it isn't perfect, but it is more than good enough for me. The "pros" convenience of one device outweighs the cons for me.

Thanks. That's the kind of input I'm interested in. I tend to be a one-device person ... probably my engineering background and mindset. I absolutely loved what murphybrown said about getting lost between the house and garage. That's not my problem but I can identify with the issues:)

Navigon Questions, and Offline GPS for iPhones

This is an old thread, so I'm hoping somebody spots this and replies. I'd rather try here first and only start a new thread if necessary.

The Navigon sounds like good software, but I'd like to confirm that it will work well audio only, and that it can still play music on iPhone while it's working. The apple native app does that, of course, but it is of little use if there is no signal.

I'm also wondering about the ability to pre-program rides - part of the fun is often taking the long way.

if there's something new on the market, that would also be great to know about. I'd like to be able to navigate using my iPhone audio, listen to my music, and do it all offline on just one device.

thanks,
Mark

The current version of NAVIGON is NAVIGON North America 2.7.1 and it goes for $59.99. There are other versions: NAVIGNON US is $49.99. NAVIGNON West, Central, and East are $29.99 each.

I had a lot of ITunes credit so I bought it and it's been great so far and it works in landscape mode. I can listen to my (AM/FM app) and Garmin will jump in and "tell me where to go", so to speak.

OK got this smarter (wayyyyyy smarter!!) than me phone. Found an app for Garmin No America ($50)...anyone got an opinion??? Oh wait these are Spyderlovers, we all have an opinion...that's what makes it sooooo great. Happy New Year everyone...cannot believe still able to ride...it was 47 and blue skies ... unbelievable but I'll take it!!!!:yes:

Check out Sygic. It uses Tom Tom maps and has lots of options for configuration. They also offer an unrestricted free trial and lifetime map updates. When I bought mine last year for Android I tried out Navigon. Had to use a crack serial to run it without buying. Tried it for about a week and then dumped it. Sygic is much better, IMO. And less money, $39.99 I believe.
