• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I'm a complete neophyte, when it comes to these things... :opps:
Is there a way to pick out a certain location (Zip code?), and then look for places to eat in that area?
So far; I've only been able to get lists of the places that are near me right now. :dontknow:
Thanks! :D

I'm not sitting in front of my gps, but yes.

Where to -» near

And select a different city

I will ask the Rear Admiral. She does pretty good with finding where she wants to go in ANY Garmin.

Got it! Thanks!!
That "Near" button; did the trick.
I've got so much tio learn about this little box!

Unless you update your map frequently, the information might be obsolete.
You can do what the other posters have recommended... especially when on the road and need a quick find.
Or, if I want to find a good rated place, I go to TripAdvisor:thumbup: then enter the address to the Garmin. My wife has hit the nail on the head with this website/app every single time!:firstplace:

Updating the maps??
Is that when you plug the 660 into your computer, and do THAT THING??

If you have not already downloaded Garmin Express and installed it, do it. It will keep track of maps and software updates.

As for Points Of Interest items (POI's) preloaded on your 660, you should consider them as a good general information. But it is very old, incomplete and sometimes wrong information. If you have interest in certain types of POI's you are better off loading files onto your Garmin from a website that has them. I use POI Factory for the lists I get. For example under the restaurants category there are 950 lists of restaurants to choose from. There are the chains of course, but also type lists, all maintained by volunteers.

Another Garmin Question

I have a 750 Nuvi, maps up to date. How do I make it show my MPH so I can check my speedo?

Lot of other stuff I don't understand either; need someone to teach us. :banghead:

The different models don't always do things the same way, but if you visit the Garmin website you can find a user manual for your 750.

That is a surprise. All Garmin GPS I have seen will show speed in map mode. After it starts up choose view map. The speed should be in the lower left or right. If it knows the speed limit of the road you're on it will display the speed limit and the speed numbers will turn red if you are speeding. Also across the top it will display the name of the road you are on.

It does show the speed limit of the road but doesn't change if I speed. I know its on there somewhere because once, long long ago, I used it to check the speed on my '11 when I put an aftermarket tire on the rear. I'll mess with it some more. Not a biggie, just want to know how accurate our speedo's are.

Edited: Found it! In the map mode, on lower left it shows speed limit; tap that and a whole new screen apprears showing your running speed and lots of other data.

My Speedo is exactly 2 miles faster than the GPS.

The manual tht came with it; is sorely lacking in information.
The tutorials contained in the unit aren't really all that "intuitive". It takes a lot of digging around to find answers; if at all! :gaah:

Like I said I have always seen it on the left or right of the menu button in map mode.

In the Garmins I have used there is usually a way that you can check items you want to display on the screen. The 660 is a little screwy in that you can do that in automobile mode, but not motorcycle. IIRC, you tap one of the display items on the screen, like speed limit, to get to it. Your model may well be different.
