• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

full face vs half vs beenie helmet

FULL FACE MODULAR

I know this has been done to death on other sites, but I cannot find any info on helmets on this site.
On my 2 wheels I wore mostly full face helmets, but on spyder I have been wearing beanie style.
I would love to know what others wear and why.
I am debating on going back to ff
ONLY A FULL FACE MODULAR. Had a low sider at 65 MPH a few years back, and would have lost the right hand side of my face with anything less! FULL FACE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO!!CapNCrunch

I wear a BMW (made by Schuberth) flip-front, the same protection as a full-face and convenient when at the gas station for refuelling as many gas stations in the UK insist that
a full face must be removed before the pump is switched on. When getting gas or just driving in town traffic at a snail's pace in the hotter weather I can flip up the front and can
then talk to to people and ride slowly without filling the helmet with sweat!
Trust 'the new guy' to be different! But it's a largely a case of what suits one person doesn't necessarily suit everyone....The police bike cops over here wear the same
type of helmet. If it's good enough for them then I'm happy with it.

I have a full face Icon Variant Etched in black, probably the coolest street helmet I've seen, I bought it this past summer when I was originally planning to get my m/c license and grab a left over '12 rs. I like the curved shield since it provides room for my glasses.

What is your head worth?

Full helmet by Fulmer with drop down sun screen under tilt up clear over screen
3/4 Vega Transit with green sunshield includes winter trim
1/2 helmet with with half shield snap on in smoke has winter trim for cool weather

it is your head and your face so it's your choice. The cheaper the helmet the longer your going to be out of work the higher the health insurance rates.

I always wear a Full Face. Too many years in the fire service to wear anything else. Go to a few motorcycle down calls and you'll be wearing one too... :ohyea:

Law enforcement for 23 years and still in it, spent a good number of those years reconstructing crashes (still do). Lots of them were bikes. I watched a guy die in my arms who ran his HD into the passenger side door of a sedan with a pee pot helmet. His forehead dented the roof line in 10 inches. Full Face all the way. That said, I went to crash where a guy with a FF went airborne into a light standard helmet first, and he was DOS. If you hit it hard enough with your head nothing is going to save you, but I will take my chances with FF. I have an HJC modular (not my favorite) and a FF Icon. I also would like to have my hearing when I get old, not a lover of my ears flapping in the wind with beanie. If you slide on pavement face down long enough in a 1/2 helmet or beanie, I think you would be surprised how fast the pavement grinds away flesh and bone. Like an eraser on a page. :yikes:

Full face for me, mostly for the protection. I'm thinking about going modular though. I downed my VFR Interceptor several years ago trying to avoid a car crossing in front of me at a busy intersection. To make a long story short, the bike was totaled and my protective gear is what saved me from road rash. When I hit the pavement my full face helmet was all scuffed on one side and was ruined. Better the helmet than my head and face.

Got my helmet, an Arai Signet Q yesterday. I wore it for a while to make sure it fits. It does and it's actually pretty comfortable.

I've seen lots of views and opinions on what type of helmet to wear. I figured that I like my head and being that I spent thousands on my new RT-Limited, spending $500 was a small price to pay to keep my brains where they belong.

Now all I need is my RT to go with the helmet. It's being delivered tomorrow.

ATGATT is me, has worked for over 60 years.
I wear a Shark modular. Made overseas, meets their standards and ours. It is designed to look okay with chin up or down. Bar locks in place, supposed to cleared to race in Europe. Pul down clear and sun visors. Bar Down most of the time, up for slow hot rides, parades or slow escorts for PGR Missions.

Newbie here. What is meant by a "modular" helmet? The type that is hinged where the face flips up? If so, are they less safe than a rigid, unhinged FF helmet? Thanks

Exactly. Some people say they aren't as safe, but some say they are. I think a little of both. Buy a good brand and worry more about defensive driving and awareness imho.

Shark Evoline. Full face modular that allows the chin bar to flip over the top of the helmet to make a 3/4 helmet. I can wear it as a full face helmet, and have the convenience of uncovering my face at stops, or using it as a 3/4 when the weather is just too miserably hot for ff.

full face modular

I use a full face modular myself your head can get just as messed up
on two wheels as you can on three wheels if you have a get off...
how much do you value your face ?

helmets

I wear a 3/4 helmet. Had a car t-bone me on a two wheeler 10 yrs ago and it worked fine. Would not recommend a beanie but any thing is better than nothing. Used to wear ff when I rode atvs. Ride safe and free.:doorag:

nothing here!

I may be a fool, but...by choice - in this Texas hot weather I wear a pretty green bay packer cap and in the rain and cold, I dawn a modular kevlar full coded helmet! besides when your number is called nothing gona protect ya...peace! may I add- of all the protection required on a cage and after all that people still die in them. 40yr 2wheel rider. anyone see my point!
:trike:

Right there with Ya Brother! I've seen people with 3/4 Helmet & shield PASS OUT while stopped at traffic light here in the Texas Summer heat! :doorag:

No doubt; a Full-Face helmet with a rigidly mounted chinpiece is going to probably offer better protection than the modulars...
But if you wear glasses; try stuffing them into place with a well-fitting helmet of that design... :gaah:

I use a modular because of the glasses!
