Fuel treatment

My dealer told me to put a cap full of gas treatment in my tank every other fillup. I bought Star Tron enzyme fuel treatment. The fellow at the auto parts store told me to use it every time.

What do you use? Do you carry the bottle in your trunk? What do you think about carrying stuff like this on hot days?

Thanks!

Sta-bil brought out an ethanol treatment, and I use it every time I fill up. Spyders seem to be very sensitive to the ethanol, and it idles much better too!

Using Startron

I usually keep Stabil in the tank during the winter when I don't ride as much. Lately with filling up every other day I haven't both with either Stabile or the Startron. Gas isn't in there long enough to go south. Although with the high humidity we're experiencing I might just go back to adding one or the other. Providing of course they do keep the water in suspension like they claim. :D On the wife's Russian iron we use Marvel Mystery Oil at every fill up based on experienced Ural driver recommendations.

Ride safe,

RPMs on my RT were surging a bit. Added Startron and in a 15 min ride the motor smoothed right out. Got some on my hands which I rubbed by mistake on my scalp. Next day I HAD HAIR! My hands no longer had Arthritus! A week later my wife said I look ten years younger! It's a miracle!! Now I no longer need eyeglasses and I can play the violin, one handed!:roflblack:

Depends..!

on the gasoline you use and what state you live in. In most cases you don't need it at all. If you don't use the bike for long periods without starting it up a stabilizer to keep the gas from going bad may help although a full tank before storing should keep. Nevertheless most of the products can't hurt...:dontknow:

I have used Star Tron for a year and a half - when home, 1 oz every three tanks or so. On trips, nearly every tank. Unless you can get non-alcohol gas I would highly recommend it to keep everything in suspension. I carry it in my saddlebag and have had no problems with the heat.

+1 on the surging issue. Now I need to try it on my hair!:roflblack::roflblack:

ethanol problems

I bought a weed wacker and the directions say to use stabilt but the marine grade.

I use stabil when I park the spyder for the winter. I have a 2008 SM5 and have had it since jan. 2009 and have never added anything during the riding season and use 87 octane and the spyder has always ran fine. Every now and then I try 93; the only difference I see is that it cost more.

I use Stabil or Marine Stabil when storing (or riding less) in the winter. The remainder of the year I use nothing. Waste of time and money, IMO. If BRP had intended it to be done, it would say so in the manual. What the dealer says (and sells) is strictly his opinion...and may be of questionable motivation. JMHO

Seeing as you had that much luck by just rubbing it on, How much should I drink for faster and more complete results. Looking to stop using Viagra every four hours. :yikes::yikes::yikes:

95% Naptha, .5% organic compounds. I don't think there is anything really special about Startron. When adding a supplement, it depends on what you are trying to achieve. For injector cleaning, it's hard to beat Techron, or Redline SI-1. For stabilizing fuel for storage, Sta-Bil gets the nod. It has hindered phenols that are sacrificial, and degrade before the fuel it protects, same concept as sacrificial rods in water heaters to protect the tank. As a do it all, FP60 has a strong following, and is a proven product. As for me, I'm old school, using the tried and tested Marvel Mystery Oil, about an ounce, or 1.5 ounces per tank of fuel, to keep the injectors lubricated, coat the intake valve stem and back of the valve so deposits don't form, and protect the sending unit in the fuel tank. I think for the majority of riders, if you buy fuel at high volume stations, run an injector cleaner every once in a while (right before oil change time is about right), and use Sta-Bil for winter storage, you'll be just fine.
