• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I picked up my 2010 RTS on Sat. It was at 1/8 tank of fuel so I filled it up but it only took a little over 3 gal. On Sun we went for a ride about 50 miles and yes some of it was stop and go. First I noticed that the fuel gauge would bounce between half and full while riding. Is that normal? Second it says that I am at 1/2 tank which seems low for the mileage I put on. When I fill it up again I am going to record the milage so I can figure an accurate MPG. But I am thinking there may be something wrong the fuel gauge.

2010 to 2013 RTs had notoriously inaccurate fuel gauges. nojoke
It's actually better to just ride by your trip odometers, and ignore what they tell you.
I used to plan on about 135 miles between stops, when I had my 2010. My 2014's gauge is so accurate, that I can now ride by it's readings. :thumbup:
 
Disable the gauges

What you are seeing is normal for that year fuel gauge. Best thing to do is remove the 4 small screws that hold the plastic piece the temp and fuel gauge are mounted to. Disconnect the wiring to both gauges, tuck the wiring back into the hole and reinstall the plastic. The temp and gas will now be displayed on the right and left side of the screen in the form of a bar gauge. It is much more accurate and doesn't jump all over the place.

:agree: 1,000%, this makes all the difference in the world. I used to fill up when the analogue guage got really low, and put never more than 4 gallons in the Byke. I disconnected the guages and now use the previously invisible digital guages and improved my mileage between stops by 60 to 80 miles.

you can leave the old guages there, or replace them with oil pressure, volt or charging ports, or even just get a nice two inch plug to cover them, your choice.

I will keep track of the mileage and also disconnect the gauges. I wanted to put a 12v plug somewhere and that would be a perfect spot.

.............The way the tank is made is part of the problem ..... If you inserted the nozzle all the way in 40% of the tank was above the nozzle and it shut off........ There is a reason BRP doesn't want you over-filling the TANK, it contaminates the charcoal canister.............Mike :thumbup:
 
They got you covered above. Funky fuel gauge on the 2010 and 2011 RT's for sure. Use the trip meter and set to zero at fill up time. For close mpg calculations, make sure to fill to the same level each time.

I fill until I see the level of the gas come up. Pull nozzle out of tank opening, fill until the level reaches the ring. It will go down from top level the first time. Refill to the ring and stop. This procedure will get you 135 to 150 miles before the low fuel light goes on. I consistently get 150 miles before the light.

Most I ever put in was 5.8 gallons at 184 miles. Gas gauge was below the lines. :thumbup::thumbup:

The re-design of the bike in 2014 moved the canister to a much higher (and safer!) location...

Doc, did that last night and it seems to be more stable now.
