• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Front Tire Pressures

Up cycles, Auto Parts analog gauges

Like many of you thought but did not say. The factory tire pressure gauge needs a nickel taped to the handle then thrown away so you can say you threw something of value away.

The Daytona Beach automotive supply houses, at the time I was looking, did not any decent analog gauges on the shelf. I was looking for a decent reading 0 to 40 # with a hold the pressure feature with a fair length air hose on it.

HD dealer had what I wanted but they were to proud for my pocket. J P Cycle Parts store had a good compromise for under $15.. I agree with NancysToy on the front TP being balanced. I run my front TP @ 18 PSIG. And have played extensively with the TP going up and down 3# and find I like the way it turns and rides at 18#.

I do have a digital one that came with a slime compressor. it fits the rear tire and seems to work fine.
 
IMO the factory gauge is pretty much crap. Do yourself a favor, and buy a good quality gauge that wiil fit the rear tire...then use it. Just make sure both fronts read the same on the same gauge.

Do you recommend a particular brand, Scotty?

Just kick the tires like all good tire guys...:roflblack::roflblack: Just make sure you have the same reading on the tires with the same gauge. Unless you have a pro gauge like for forks you will never be right if you release to slow on one the other will be off...:dontknow:

I normally use a Milton pencil type gauge (50 psi). I have the racing type gauges with the hose and circular gauge, and even some woth bleeders, but the pencil gauge works well and stores easily. There are lots of choices, just use a quality, name brand gauge for best results.
 
I don't remember getting a tire gauge with my 2010 RT, is that something new, any one care to post a pic of it? I remember reading a post lasts year that had a great air gauge that you could use at the gas station and you didn't have to keep adding air and then checking the gauge as the air passed through the gauge.:dontknow: Anybody remember that?

Have you ever looked in your toolkit? That's where they hide it.

The type of gauge you are looking for is called an inlator gauge. Milton and others make them.
 
I've got a digital gauge by Slime. Seems to work pretty darned good and I can get at all 3 wheels easily. Plus, it's got a backlight which is nice when the lighting is crummy.:thumbup:

I think your correct as long as the reading is repeatable it won't matter much if it is 1 psig different than what you wanted.

John , I went to autozone and bought a digital air gauge it has a hose that is about 6 inches long to reach the back tire valve stem , easily and it has a large display , the unit is round and the hose wraps around it for storage.

But it IS a pain to have to crawl down under there and get belt dust all over your hand while checking pressures or pumping that rear tire up... :gaah:

I purchased this Gauge that Mike in GA recommended in a prior thread!! The 0-60 pound gauge is best because its Most accurate in the middle #s . Its LARGE and will do the back tire much easier than any I have had-Its very accurate and holds the Pound # when you push it on until you release it. If over the poundage you want it has a button to push and slowly bleed off air!! I love it!:yes:

Not really, at least not for me. I raise my Spyder and place it on jack stands every week for cleaning. Once everything is cleaned up, including the belt/brake dust, I check the tire pressure before removing the stands and lowering it to the floor.

Remember Bob,...no pain no gain, go ahead and get those lilly whites a little dirty :joke:.
 
This is what I came up with to fill both tires at the same time and get exactly equal pressure in each tire.
