Front Oil and Radiator grills

I have a 2010 Spyder RT-S SE5 Model

Has anyone made and replaced the metal grills at the front of the Spyder where the Oil and Water radiator are located

The existing grills don't look that strong and would look better with Stainless Steel Perforated sheets

On my BMW K100LT I replaced the standard Radiator cover + A lower spoiler cover with a polished Stainless Steel Perforated sheets which had 3mm holes in it
This did not allow any debris to get pass and in fact the BMW ran cooler as the air was being forced in under more pressure

I Think 5mm holes in Perforated Stainless Steel Sheet would look so much better and would improve the front end appearence esp with the Stainless Steel being polished and the holes being a simular size to the existing metal guard would not affect the cooling system

Any know how easy is to remove the Plastic tupperware (Plastic surround) from the existing Grills so I can replace with Stainless Steel Perforated sheets

Any guidance would be helpful

I have posted some pictures of my old BMW K100LT to show the Polished Stainless Steel sheets in place

That bike only has two wheels, where is its third wheel? Or is this a new mod?

I take it ypou mean Stainless Steel screens to replace the existing metal protection screens already in use on the Spyders
to cover the Oil and Water radiators at the front

I am not aware of any - I was thinking of removing the Plastic and inserting sheet Stainless Steel perforated sheets as replacements

Perhaps someone like Spyderpops would look at this and come up with somethng we could purchase in much the same way they came up with the grills for the RHS

I finally made my Stainless Steel Grills for the Front of my Spyder RT – SE5 2010 Model

I used the following Stainless Steel -

304 Stainless Steel Sheet Perforated

1mm Sheet thickness 3mm diameter holes at 5mm Centres 33% Open Area

Having removed the original grills and used them as a pattern to bend and Shape the Stainless Steel sheets

I could remove the Radiator cover & Grill and this made it easier to do

The Oil cooler cover could not be remove due to the Rod going through it

I made a patter out of cardboard once I was able to remove the old grill from inside the Oil cooler cover

Having ridden the Spyder there appears to be no change in the temp, It still runs at 5 yellow
segments in the display and the fan still cuts it
I has been about 28.c which is about as hot as it get here in the UK give or take 3-4.c
I am sure with the normal temps it may well run with less heat due to the air being forced through the fine 3mm holes

The perforated Stainless Sheet have been attached using Zip (Cable ties) and are solid with no movement

It looks so much better than the stock Chicken Wire (as I call it) as fitted by BRP
The Stainless Steel sheets are stronger and with the small holes less debris will get through

I have added some photos to show the results:-

Yet more Stainless Steel Grills

Ref My Spyder RT[-S SE5 2010 Model

I have already made my own Stainless Steel Grills for the Missing Grills RHS
See My posting in
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?25865-right-side-grill-covers&highlight=grills

and the thread above explained how I made S/S Grills for both the Radiator and Oil cooler located at the Front

I have also replaced both the Upper Grill covers with

304 Stainless Steel Sheet Perforated
1mm Sheet thickness 3mm diameter holes at 5mm Centres 33% Open Area

I removed the panels and cut out the plastic grill then using Zip ties and S/S bolts and Nuts secured the Perforated sheets underneath - These holes are smaller than the stock Plastic Upper grill covers so less Water & debris can drop down into the engine bay

I have had no problem with the heat coming from the engine although these grills do get hot sitting above the engine
because they are metal they act as heat shrink and soon cool down

Again see photos to show the results :-

Note - The reflections are from Chrome Lower wind defelectors and the polished bodywork of the Spyder
