• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi Guys and Gals,
I have a non Can Am trailer with all LED lights and it worked OK on my 2010 RT. When I connected it to my new 2014 RT LTD the trailer module tried to torch my new ride!!
The smell was terrible and my Tech ordered a new module for a 2010 RT as this is what he was advised to do by BRP Aust. Result as before.
The tech then hardwired the trailer connector into the wiring loom where the module plugs in. Result GREAT!!!!!
I have done almost 20,000 kilometres mostly towing the trailer and (touch wood) have not had any problems.

Wiring module problem.

I'm having the same problem. New module put in yesterday and wallah. No lights on trailer again. No dealers open but going to go by pit bulls Tuesday. Question. Where is the trailer wiring module located on my 2014 RTL. Sounds as if I need the additional ground :banghead:. I'm out on the road vacation not fun. There is a dealer here in fort smith but of course it's Sunday and closed also on Monday. Any temporary solutions appreciated.

When I was going through my grounding harness/blown trailer lights issues I rode cross country with no lights twice. I have the Custom Dynamics High Mount Brake Light that is still visible with the trailer attached so It wasn't an issue. Joe usually rides behind me on his motorcycle and he didn't have a problem seeing me.
 
Well... Pit Bull Fixed the problem !!!

Pit Bull fixed my Frying Module problems. Got it in Last tuesday while out on an 1800 mile trip. Pulled in with my newly purchased Lumina trailer, that had evidently caused 2 trailer modules to go out. Left with a new BRP freedom trailer. Problem solved. Now to paint the trailer pearl white to match the bike.

I'm sure there was an easier fix, but alls well that ends well. Right? :rolleyes:

There has got to be something screwy with the BRP modules if they work OK with BRP trailers but blow out on other trailers. It just does not make sense unless the current carrying capacity of the BRP module is so marginal that any load above what a BRP trailer has blows it. Either that or your Lumina trailer had a screwed up wiring situation. What did Lumina folks have to say about it or did you ask?

I'm glad I used a older style made-for-Goldwing module.

I'm sure there was a fix for the lumina trailer, and I'm almost certain it was a grounding issue. The trailer hitch and ball connection was not as snug as it could be and with all the movement could have caused the trailer to lose ground. Not sure but have a suspicion of this being the case. A good tech could have made it work fine I'm sure as many have had this same issue. I was caught in a bind, with bad timing as I was traveling and the dealer needed to sell me a new BRP trailer. ;) I must say I'm very impressed with the BRP freedom trailer. The lighting is a great compliment to the bike, and handling is great. (so was the handling of the lumina trailer), just wished they had the matching colors of all the bikes.

It's generally the trailer. The module BRP uses is the same Hopkins module as used in a car or pickup truck. What will kill these electronic modules is a loose connection. Rapid on/off from a loose wire or bad ground equals fried module.

I sure wouldn't think that in this day and age ANY trailer manufacturer would wire a trailer depending on the hitch connection to provide the ground connection. Parallel ground connection, sure, but sole ground? Now, I can see where a loose wire is a real probability, or a bad connection to a light exists.

Maybe the reason my module is still good is because it is relay based, not IC based.

I sure hope Pit Bull finds the problem with the trailer and fixes it before they sell it to some other hapless victim.
