Friday in Quebec

Lamonster

SpyderLovers Founder
We got in late Thursday to the hotel Delta and was greeted by SpyderLovers member groundeffect from Newfoundland. He's a new SpyderLover and is about as excited about the Spyder as you can get. He drove me nuts at first when he first joined the board with all the questions he had but now that he's an owner he has been a big help to other members. He's really a nice guy and I'm glad to have him as a member.

I got to give major props to effgjamis and docdoru. They drove non stop from Kissimmee, Florida and Clearwater, FL to Sherbrooke Quebec. These are the toughest Spyder riders I have ever met. You get the Energizer Bunny award.

This pic was the most Spyders Dean had ever seen in one place. He was about to be blown away. :D

Groundeffect (Dean) is the guy on the left. :doorag:

Our first stop was the BRP service and parts warehouse in Sherbrooke. This was just down the road from the Delta. We were greeted by Danny and he took us in and gave us the VIP tour. It was great. :doorag: We got to see Carlo there and see where he worked.

After the tour we headed back to the Delta and met up with Marc Lacroix and Martyne. They escorted us to the Plant in Valcourt. There was a lot of road construction and we got separated along the way so I hung back with Martyne because she knew where we were and where we were going. I hate riding in groups for just this reason but it all worked out.

When I first set this up there were only going to be four of us but as you can see the group got a little bigger than we had planned. Marc made adjustments for the bigger group. Thanks Marc, you Da Man :2thumbs: Groundeffect was flipping out at all the Spyders in the group. :D

We rode into town and you could see this was a BRP town. Most everyone there has something to do with BRP if not working at the plant they are servicing the workers. It's pretty cool to see. :doorag:

From there we went to the Armand Bombardier Museum This is really worth seeing if you've never been. The last time we were in Valcort I didn't get a chance to check it out. I'm sure glad I did this time. They had a cool video of how he got started. Who knew that the Spyder would be the a part of a visionary like J. Armand Bombardier. He was an amazing man.

You sat right behind that prop

On the way out from the museum we stopped by the BRP corporate building and the building where they are working on future products 8 to 10 years down the road. Man I would like to be a fly on the wall in that building. :D

From there some of us split off as we went to dinner. Marc could only reserve four seats for me and my other guest but as it turned out we were able to get a table for us all. This place is a hot spot and we were very lucky to get seated. When we left the place was packed so timing is everything. :doorag:

Chaz Rice and Dennis Sawyer (after-sales service) and Brenda Culligan (parts, accessories and clothing) joined us for dinner Friday night.
Dinner was great and we had a nice surprise at the end, BRP picked up the tab. Thank you :firstplace:

No I didn't get to try this but it did look pretty good. :doorag:

We had a great ride back and we stopped by Megog to see if anyone was there. I guess they were but we didn't know exactly where at the time.

We decided to head back to the Delta but then someone said something about donuts. I love donuts and my favorite is Dunkin Donuts. I was told that Tim Hortons was like Dunkin Donuts except better. I didn't see how that was possible but I was ready and willing to find out. I got to tell you the donuts were great but the coffee was the best I've ever had. I would go there just for the coffee. You got to check it out.

By the way I guess I live under a rock because I had never heard of Tim Hortons.

Here's the facts.
3,029 locations in Canada. 567 in Northern U.S.
100,000 employees
$2 Billion in Sales
Larger than McDonalds in Canada

Hanging out in the parking lot was great and I got to tell you that kicking tires in the parking lot is always the best part of events like this. You get the know the folks you ride with and build closer relationships. I even had a guy tell me he was a "troll" on my board. nojoke Seemed like a nice guy in the in person :dontknow:

Magog Spyderfest 2010

lol. You looked kinda stunned when I told you that. Like I said to you was I posted some questions before I bought the spyders and some members got in a huff and started calling me a troll. Now I have 2 Spyders and know for myself what they're like. They're fun but do lack in the performance area. They still get you tickets though. Anyhow it was nice to meet you and I had a blast with Spyderpops, Ahand, and Forrest. Taking money from Docdoru was icing on the cake.lol Glad you enjoyed Canada.

Tim Hortons is otherwise known as "Timmy Ho's" We've had em up north for ages and they are slowly working south.... Hopefully soon you won't have to drive 500 miles to have the worlds best coffee! Great Write-up.

In case you did not know, Tim Hortons is a former hockey player... go figure! I really do mis Tim Horton.

Two sugar, two cream is called a double-double.

So, does that mean that ground effect will be riding all the way down to TN in September?

I believe this deal is for the one in May.

I've read a few of your posts where you have taken Doc's money but you never mention for what:dontknow: i'm guessing you may have beat him on his turbo"performance testing" as some refer to it on here. You said the Spyder lacks in the performance area, it sounds as if you may have a good setup for yours now ,give us the dirt:firstplace:

My bike don't compare to the Docs.lol Our bet was for the Spyder count. He said there was no way in hell we'd get 300.

Have you seen a Spyder run at the track? Kinda disappointing.

There was a gentleman in one of the pictures videos that had a yellow spyder with a nice luggage rack that looked like it fit right on the sport rack.Anybody know who makes this? Thanks

That was SpyderPops and he can tell you more on what he used and how he did it.

The rack is from BRP. It's an accessory for the Can-Am Renegade atv.

True, but it has to be modified to latch into the Spyder base. A very neat item though. The BRP rep really liked it but said legal would probably kill it as an accessory because of the potential to put too much weight on it.

Too bad we all have to suffer for people that do stupid things and then sue the manufacturer.

Weight should always go between the axles. But there are bulky things that don't weigh that much. This is where a rack like this shines.

If you can do it in a similar location on every sport bike and sport tourer around, I would see no problem on the Spyder. See...I would make a lousy lawyer. :roflblack:

You would make a lousy lawyer....that is one of your redeeming features!

Hey guys!

Lamont, great posts as usual!

Yep, absolutely a fantastic time in Sherbrooke, Magog and of course the journey from Newfoundland and back. My Spyder performed the 4200km flawlessly !!!!!!! :2thumbs::thumbup:

Thanks, Lamont. It was a pleasure meeting up, ryding and hanging out with you guys! Hope to do it again sometime!

Yep… there are not many Spyders in Newfoundland, so true enough, in the parking garage that night was the most Spyders I've seen in one place. Wow, was I in for a surprise at the event!! :) :) :)

Two brand new Spyder owners, Dean from Newfoundland and Aaron from Arkansas, really got a unique introduction to the BRP experience.
Ron, you are right, what a fantastic way to meet up with some of the coolest BRP employees, with a vip tour. Carlo, Dany and those we've met on the tour are very passionate about their work and it clearly shows. The facility and their attitudes are top notch and there are on the ball!

The museum was pretty neat; seeing the history and what started Bombardier. The ryde lead by Marc around town and then dinner on the lake was great fun. (Thanks Marc!!!)

Good stuff, Lamont, glad you enjoyed Tim's.

It was awesome meeting up with everyone, matches names with faces and connecting with other Spyderlovers and new comers. This was my longest trip on my spyder (4200km return), and it handled very well. Out of the 7 days of the travel, events and kicking the tires in the parking garage at the Delta in Sherbrooke, I ran through some drizzle only once early in the morning then it cleared. The weather was beautiful, the countryside views were picturesque, the spyder folk were welcoming and the ryding was awesome!! :2thumbs:

A BIG thanks to BRP - Marc, Dennis, Carlo and Dany for the tours, dinner and camaraderie.

Carlo, if you're reading this - your route from Magog to Sherbrooke is the best! Loved that dip in the road with the pond on the right. I did ryde the compression from the dip:thumbup:. Just awesome! Thanks.

Cheers from Newfoundland!
Dean
( I hope to post a couple pictures of my own when I get them downloaded and sorted off my camera )
