When I select new posts it brings up all threads that have new posts in them, but starts at the beginning of thread. I know there is a button that allows me to go to the first unread post, but is it possible to set it to always position at the first unread post within the thread?

After you got the list of recent posts on the screen, click the blue arrow in the third column and it takes you direct to the last post of the thread.

Scroll down to Thread Display Mode:

In the drop menu select Newest First

Scroll down & select Save Changes.

This does mean that all threads are in reverse order for any thread regardless of how you navigate to it.
