• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I hadn't ridden the Spyder since Dec when the steering demon decided it would be funny to make himself know as I was rounding a corner on a two laner doing 65 with oncoming traffic. Interesting:shocked:....was glad to have read on here about the possibility of this as it made it easier to deal with.
Anyway the weather was warming up last week so I called the dealer to see when I could get her in to get the DPs recall done. To my surprise they said bring her in day after tomorrow at 8AM. The next day I remembered that the oil needed to be changed. Its a 75 mile trip to the dealer so I wanted to change the oil before. The choices were slim for some reason ( guess everyone was getting their bikes ready to roll in the good weather) so I put Valvoline Dino 10w-40 bike oil in. I figured I would run it a week or two and then put syn in. The tranny has NEVER been smoother, all I have to do is think "neutral" and she is there. Anyone else used this oil? Guess I'll run it a while and see how it does.
The recall work took three hours not too bad. Seems that my steering was never right..it is now VERY responsive. So much so that I started to change lanes when I was just looking to see if the lane was clear. She is a different machine. Hope this fix sticks.

I have used Valvoline dino bike oil in many of my other motorcycles for years, with good results. Be aware, however, that this oil does not meet BRP specs, which call for a synthetic blend or a full synthetic oil. It also does not meet their viscosity spec...although neither does their own oil. :D If you had an oil related failure, the cost of repair could be on you if they contested your choice of oils. The choice (and the risk) is yours, each type of oil has certain advantages and disadvantages.

There is that issue. Kinda funny the Aprilla Millie, same motor I believe, manual calls for 15w-50. The Aprilla guys seem to be having good results using M1 15w-50 car oil in that motor :dontknow:. Its all magic!! Guess a wise guy would just run BRP oil till the warrenty is over and then think about what may be best :gaah:

Just a comment. I am not a wrench...I change my oil and filter on my Wing, which is easy. I always used Mobil 1 15w-50 synthetic in my scoots and vehicles....have for years.

I read where SM should not be used in a Spyder. I went over and looked at two jugs of M1. The newer "better" M1 with the gold cap vs grey cap now has SM on the label where the other (older) did not.

My plan is to let the dealer change my oil and filters during several of the checkups. I will see what oil they use.

Next time I am at Wal-Mart, I will look at the different oils (blends) and see if SM is absent from what oils.

Ha ha, on the GL1800 Trike site, we beat the oil question to death about every six weeks....a new guy will ask what oil do you use and "away we go"....

Well my memory isn't what it used to be...
They say that the memory is the 2nd thing to go... and I forget what the first one was!
New folks show up and have questions... there's way worse ways to spend time at a computer.

:agree:Thats what keeps this site interesting.:chat: [and active]:ohyea:

Yeah, I agree...it is interesting to see what other folks use. Anyway, I went to my dealer to ride the demos again and make sure I want the SE5 vs SM5...I do.

I visited with the Spyder mechanic and asked what oil he used. BRP synthetic blend he said, which is what I expected.

It's tough to imagine them not waving the BRP banner at every opportunity... but their oil certainly would never be a bad choice. It is fun to see what options are out there

So you've decided on he SE-5 tranny?? :2thumbs:

Yes, Bob, I am going with the SE5. I talked to their Spyder mechanic and he said there had been a few problems, but nothing he could not correct. Anyway, he seemed very confident in his ability and is known in the area as very knowledgable. Anyway, I await my red RT-S.
