• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

For those with performance mods

When you go to the dealer for any type of servicing, be sure to tell them what performance mods you have done to your Spyder. This may just help keep them out of trouble when the pull it around for service, or take it for a test ryde.

I took mine in to get new front tires put on it this morning. As I was the first customer at the shop, we were chatting about things before they started on my Spyder. The tech that came to get my Spyder was not one I had seen before, so I told him not to be too heavy on the throttle as even though it is an SE5 he would be surprised. After putting the tires on he took it for a test ryde. When he came back he thanked me for telling him about the performance mods. He said he would have been even more shocked by the speed had he not known, as my Spyder got off the line faster than any one he has ever ridden so far.

:agree: I have performance mods and I also realize the importance of letting all who work on it know what and where everything additional is.

Just repeating what he told me. By the way, this is the dealer in Statesboro that you may want to try to get your DPS done at. Mike, the owner, is trying to get BRP to send him extras based on the VIN numbers he can collect. Hopefully this will work and we can get our updated DPS units sooner than next year.

I get the idea of telling them about mods you've done so they don't mess with them---- but not sure why them 'getting on the throttle' hard should be a problem at all. ;)

Mine tend to stand out lol :roflblack:

:agree: Yes, you shouldn't need to tell them anything. Mine are all hidden, except for the Hindle.

Maybe it's because mine is an SE5 so there is no clutch to dump if they wanted to get on it hard. I know my wife's SE5 is also fast, but mine will run away from hers from a standing start. This tech wasn't one of the typical younger kid types either, so that may have played into it as well. :dontknow:

All I know is he seemed truly appreciative for me telling him about the mods before hand after he returned from the test ryde.

WOLFEN!! I think people have a pre-concieved notion about the Spyder and it surprises them when they get on and find out their notions were incorrect! Our Spyders are not killers, but no slouch either! :D The forces at play are different as well...

Don't tell them anything extra that they don't need to know. One of mine tried to blame the popping and backfiring on my ESI mud flap mod. I was like ... don't even try to go there buddy!!!

I have the mudflap lights, fender tips, dayrunners and the new dayrunner pucks. When I got my DPS changed this past week, the :cus: tech decided he didn't like the way I had zip-tied the wires, so he unhooked all of them, re-routed the wires, reconnected the wires and zip tied it all up.

Well...he managed to get EVERY single connection WRONG!!! When I turn on my right turn signal, my right mirror blinks (as expected) but my LEFT fog light blinks as well...none of the other things that are supposed to blink work. Left turn signal - mirror blinks and my RIGHT side dayrunner blinks! And again, nothing that is supposed to be blinking is working. The power switch for the dayrunner pucks doesn't appear to be hooked to anything.

Also, he even got the FACTORY connections wrong...the fender tips no longer blink when the Spyder is in reverse. So...in about 5 minutes I'm heading out to the garage to pull the trunk off and rewire it CORRECTLY!!! :gaah:

On a positive note, I really LOVE the new DPS! I had never had any problems with the old one and didn't think it was bad, but the new one is awesome!

This sounds about typical! Most of these techs are strictly "by-the-book" guys, so if you throw something like extra connections and or modified connections at them, they go to pieces! And the nerve on this guy who thought he knew more about your stuff than you! Sorry you are having to re-do your fine work.

So given that, it does make sense to warn them about things that are not exactly spec! :D Could save you a boat-load of time in the end...

I just added more lights to my Spyder, some amber strips to highlight the nose cone some along with ground effect light coming out under the nose. You can see the new pictures in my mods thread. :D Since these lights are all mounted to the frunk, I made sure to tape all of the wires together into one bundle. I removed the skid plate and ran the wires through slots in the frame, and then straight back out to the A-Frame. The hot and ground come straight down along side pre-existing wires in the Spyder, and are locked into the connectors just above the lower a-frame. When it comes time for them to remove my frunk, I just need to unhook the hot and ground from the control box and the lighting and all wires will come out with the frunk. I even took the extra step of putting a + sign on the one connector, and a - sign on the other, to make it easier to hook them back up properly. I am hoping this will keep them from messing anything up.

The sad thing is he shouldn't have had to disconnect any of those lights in order to get the frunk off Some Guy's Spyder. :dontknow:

I won't chance that kind of hassle. When the time comes, and they finally get DPS units for our Spyders, the frunks will come off before they go to the shop. I already had difficulty with the tech disconnecting the custom wiring on Nancy's Spyder when they replaced the console.

That might not be a bad idea either. It might be kind of interesting to ryde the Spyder the 2 hours and back without the frunk on it. I know Firefly did it without any problems. I don't have a trailer the Spyder can fit on, or in, yet.

What the frunk Wolfen? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHA :roflblack: :roflblack: I couldn't help it!

Geez, I just kill myself!! :D

:agree: 100000%!

If you're stock then sure-- let them do it--- but if you have special mods and lights up there (like someguy does) --- you're best to take it off yourself.

The dealer is only responsible for standard installation of the new DPS--- if they have to do more due to custom mods-- they CAN charge you for that time.

Best thing is to also make all your light connections easy to disconnect when needed.

You can ride the Spyder without the trunk on it--- no problem at all.....

:agree: That's GOTTA look interesting though, seeing a Spyder going down the road with no Frunk!
