FOOT PEGS TO BE MOVED FORWARD FOR TALLER PEOPLE

I was talking to the service manager at my new dealer today and as a newby I have a question for the more service savvy people out there. Depending on how my knees hold up (20 years of walking on metal aircraft carrier decks) I am thinking about putting foot pegs that are mounted forward of the current ones. Are there foot pegs outy there that you don't have to do any cutting to install? I don't want to have to do that and was told if they are there that your foot is close to the radiator. I am 6'2" and could really use some advice. Thanks. Chief Ed

Take a look at the Seal floor boards and Kewl Metal Highway pegs. There are several out there. Is this for a RS or RT?

I am 6'3" and fortunately have no issues w/the knees when riding our RS-S, despite many years of walking on the metal floor of the USAF C-5 Galaxy and the pavement surrounding them. I did notice that when we purchased a Comfort Seat, that I sat a bit higher, and this opened up the angle of the knees a slight amount. If opening up the angle of the knee is your concern, you might consider raising your backside a small amount as an option.

Hi Chief Ed,

Check out my website: sealfloorboards.com and look at the RT, RT Pups and RS floorboards. You don't say what kind of Spyder you have. All Seal FloorBoards can be installed in 45 min. or less. No holes to drill, VERY easy. Also check out my Gallery Page for big 8 Legged Freak on his black RT SE5...all 6'6" of him.

Ride in comfort,

John

Can you put "pressure " on any of the above ? On my old bike I had pegs that I could actually put my heels on and push back against the seat to relieve butt pressue and loved them. All of the pegs , floorboards I've seen for the spyder don't look like I could do that .

Seal FloorBoards will easily let a 300 + lb. person stand on them and bounce. I have seen 8 Legged Freak do it on his RT many times. If you can stand on your factory pegs, you can stand on a Seal FloorBoard!

I have the highway pegs from site sponsor, ESI. http://www.esicycleproducts.com/spyderfootrest.html They have worked out well for me since I am 6'6". For a shorter person, I would look at the ones from Kewlmetal. Either of them will bolt on the bottom of the Spyder, no cutting. Of course, these are in lieu of floorboards, which many prefer.

Those are excellent pegs by the looks. If I did it I would want them as far forward as possible so the tip of my boot would almost touch the fender. I tried a couple at SITA and they weren't far enough forward. I'm only 5'11". JMO

you can get extension links up to 3". I think that will put your feet as far forward and you can reach without sliding up on the seat. :dontknow:

Hello ED, :congrats: on your new Spyder.

As far as I know there are several options for forward mounted highway pegs
but there are no forward controls available for the Spyder.
One of our site sponsers, ISCI does make floorboards w/brake and shifter extensions to lower your foot position.
I have an RS and opted to use the highway pegs from ISCI.
They are very strong and have an adjustable height.
With your feet moved forward and away from the brake pedal, you will need the hand brake from ISCI
to make it a safer ride. Check out ISCI, they make very high quality products.

I've always wondered why the Spyder footpegs aren't lower. It doesn't lean in corners so it doesn't need the footpegs up high for cornering clearance. At 6'9" I can easily stretch my legs and rest my feet on the fenders. I don't do it much because I don't want to scratch them, but there are no highway pegs or floorboards that give me enough stretch to be worth the money. All of them are too close for me. Result: I ride for an hour or so and stop, stretch, get a drink of water or coffee, etc. and then off I go again. I never ride more than 60-70 miles without getting off. I do the same in my car. I can drive all around the country, 12,000 miles in a month, but I stop every hour.

Footpegs

Check out Rivco Products. I recently put on their floorboards. I needed to extend my leg due to a hip/femur injury. The Rivco Floorboards allowed me to change my leg position and ride in comfort. Based on what I read in this forum, the ISCI & Seal floorboards are also very popular. The highway pegs weren't a great option for me as I have short legs & I felt like my legs were spread too far apart.

Good Luck,
