Fog Lamps on your ride

Wonder if ST owners who have installed fog lamps found it to significantly help light the road ahead.
Would you consider installing a HID kit or an OEM HID Headlamp on your ST (or any Spyder model).

Of course upgrading the lights will depend on how much twilight/night riding one plans on doing to make it worth while, but again the agrument can be that the mod is to increase safety thru better night vision.

I have found the benefits of having OEM xenon headlamps and will never own another car without it.

I have found that regardless of the time Of day you drive/ryde, you can never have too much light.

I agree. It may not really light up the road but it can help to catch a drivers attention.

Sent from my Galaxy S3. I may have made a spelling error or may have some grammer issues. My fingers are way to big to type on this tiny screen!

I have aftermarket HID on my ST-S it is much better, I'm also installing anther set on my fog lam space....better be save than sorry,,,

Here's a pic of an RT with HIDs all around except 1 OEM Fog Light, can u tell which 1

I know you asked mainly about the STs, and I'm sorry that we can't provide you any feedback for them, only from Teds Red Sled which is a 2011 SpyderFest Eddition RT-S. We switched out to the Xenon Depot HID Kit for the headlights and that was a much needed change, much brighter white and longer casting down the road. It made our still OEM Fog lights look almost orangish/yellowish in comparison so we recently changed them out also using the Xenon Depot HID FogLight Kit, and you can easily see the difference for yourself here. We do alot of pre-dawn and after dark ryding, as I go to work daily at 4:30am. We've noticed that they do also provide not only better visibility of ourselves to others, but they do actually help illuminate the road right around the sled better than the OEM FogLights did

I installed the BRP fog light kit in our ST and yes it does make a difference. Very noticeable when you turn them on. I had put aftermarket HID kit in one of my Harleys, but had it fail on a road trip so I went back to standard. I had LED Headlights in my current Harley and really like those. I am hoping that BRP comes out with LED's sometime soon.

Oh yeah..!!

don't have hid's but added halogen fog lights and driving lights and they do make a difference. We drive back road were night is night not the glow of city lights. Last ryde up big bear mountain had full moon but those extra lights make all the difference. I like to be seen but I really like to see where I'm going..!!

I only have the OEM head and fog lights and I have been running them all, day or night. I run high beams during the day also. IMHO, the more and better you can be seen the better off you are.

I had the HID's and fogs on my 2008 and got a lot of negative feedback from other vehicles. Yes, they were aimed right.

Have OEM lights and fogs on the two RT's. As mentioned above--They are not that great for illumination the road--but they do light up the front of the :spyder2: giving a better visibility to oncoming vehicles. Many highways here have a "lights on" requirement, so I always keep the lights on.

Fog lights aren't meant to light up the road, There Suppose to be pointed down so you can see the road in the fog, Down and no more than 75 feet out.
And a little towards the right shoulder of the road. Every wonder why factory fog lights are made to turn off when the brights are on>> DOT Rules..
Next time your driving in heavy fog, Turn on your hi-beams, And you'll understand...
Driving in fog 101....

As was just said, fog lamps are not intended to light up down the road. They are meant to cast a lower, often wider beam to allow you to see in the fog, and also sometimes to light near the vehicle. Driving lights are similar in location and appearance, but those have long, piercing beams to light up down the road. Driving lights per se are not offered for the Spyder. Get the HIDs if you want to see as far as possible.

Is it normal ?

I think my RTS 2012 is somewhat different. Where I should have my fog lights I have my low beams. When I change to high beams they are turned off and the upper beams (where you guys have your regular beams) come on. I also do not have the fog lights switch on my dash. Is it normal ? This way, I do not know how to upgrade to HID. What should I buy and where to put the bought stuff ? Thanks for any help on that. :sour:

You have the non-North American version. That is normal outside North America. Unfortunately I am not aware of which bulb is used for that version. If you can determine which type of bulb it uses you can match an aftermarket HID kit to the bulb type. Better check on the local laws first. You may not be able to utilize HIDs, or they may be limited to either high or low beams. Some of our European members may be able to help you.

I put on a pair of long led lights that go on the lower control arms and believe me I can be seen day or night, I got them for Custom Dynamics, I think they were $99.00 + S&H. I will not go with out them.

Thank you ! I am assuming that the models we have in Brazil are the european ones. Have fun !

Unfortunately HID's are illegal unless installed from the factory. That said, Oct 1 will have new laws on the books where driving/riding with high beams will be illegal too. (Maryland). It's to do with driver distraction and blinding people trying to cross the road front of you.

As was already said, fog lights are designed to help you see in fog. I will be adding LED spot lights to the wheel area to catch the attention of other drivers. If I do anything to the fog lights it will be to make them yellow.

Do any of you ST owners that added foglights have the original stock black plastic vents that you removed when adding the lights? I'm looking for an extra set to try something with over the winter. If you want to part with them shoot me a message on how much you want for them.
Thanks!
