There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Flat trunk key

Does anybody remember which car key fits the trunk of the RT? It will not start the trike but open the trunk lock to get to a spare key.

mine was done by a locksmith. key blank is an ILCO ... X80 on the left, VL6 on the right of the slot for the key ring. works great!

Are you guys saying a "fake key" will open the rear trunk?
So will anyone's RT key open anyone's RT trunk?

Seems odd they would do this honestly.

You still have to have it ground to fit your lock.
It will then work in the trunk and the ignition to unlock trunk, frunk, seat and trailer
But because it does not have the RFD chip it will not start the bike.

Ground to fit your lock?
I guess I am not getting this?

Again though, so other Spyder owners can open my trunks with their key?
Not that I don't trust other Spyder owners but I am not sure I like this idea.

My "blank key" that was cut will NOT fit your trunk or open your trunk, Bob. It is the Ilco X270 as mentioned earlier. Again, the only thing it will do is open MY "Runk" and trailer trunk.

Chris

By using the identified Ilco key blank and having it cut the same as your other Spyder key, you will be able to open only your frank, turn your ignition and open your trailer, but not start your bike. This is just a cheap and easy way to get a spare key cut for your bike that will do everything but start the bike. You will not be able to use this key on anyone else's bike, just your own. They call it a "flat key" because it is just that. Not the big thick key from Can Am. Hope this clears things up.

Sent from the corner of walk and don't walk....

Key only works on your bike. Will open your trunk. You put your spare in the trunk. Believe me it is not easy finding a loose key in that trunk. I keep the replica in the small trunk. A thief would have to find the replica then figure out which trunk or if under seat. A lot of thinking for a would be thief.

They're talking about the blank that a locksmith will use to cut a copy of your key. It will then turn any lock on your bike (and only your bike). However it will not start your bike because your genuine BRP key contains an electronic chip that the bike detects when the key is in the ignition, then turns off the immobiliser. This copy key does not have the chip so your ignition stays immobilised.

So no, anybodies key will not open your bike. They would need to cut a copy of your key.

Ah OK I understand now thanks!
Seems like a good idea.
Do you have to go to a special place to get the key and get it cut to match, or can you do it at Wallmart with the auto key copier device they have?

I try to find places where the person running the cutter, isn't trying to get a date with one of the body-pierced and tatooed checkout girls, while his pants are falling down...
But basically; that's about all that it takes!

Bob, I tried the likes of Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot. At each they said you need to go to a locksmith who will have THAT particular blank AND who has the knowledge to make the cut.

Hope this helps.

Chris PS: I did go to a reputable locksmith here in Sanford, Flarda, and was able to have a couple of blanks ordered and cut.

CHIP IN KEY

How close to the key socket does the chip have to be in order to start the Spyder. i.e., Can I leave a blank key in the ignition with my chip key in my pocket?

You pretty much will have to touch the chipped key against the dummy to start and run the bike...
(I've done it!)
Once it's running; you're good to go!
