There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Flag holder for RT

Looking for a safe NON-OBTRUSIVE flag and holder for RT-S

I am wanting to ride and fly the American Flag but have looked at the varying types of mounts, holders, etc., I am VERY much concerned about what ever I choose that it does NOT interfere with any warning lights, tailights, brake lights, 3rd brake light, turn signals, etc,. on the Spyder RTS.

We all have enough problems with people rear-ending bikes of all types and having something back there stopping what we have already done to our units to hopefully protect our rear's even more---don't need it hampered by flags.

Is there something you all have on your Spyders (RT-S) that is good and does NOT interfere with the above when riding etc.,

Thanks!

I had a license plate flag mount but the flags interfered with seeing the brake lights. I now have the Rivco mounts and they are great!

Sorry about this folks, but I disagree about some of the above mentioned opinions regarding the placement of the USA flag on the rear of a motorcycle due to some very personal and private experiences
I have been active with the AMA, CMA, Blue Knights, GWTA, GWRRA, AmVetRiders, Legionriders and ABATE for more than just a few years now. Each of these organizations have always suggested the following...
Single flag:
The ideal placement of a single USA flag upon a motorcycle is
dead center at a rear regardless of vertical reference (how high or how
low it is mounted on the rear of the motorcycle). Mounting of a single
USA flag may also be placed on the right side of the motorcycle,
preferably the highest of all options. But it SHOULD NEVER be mounted
on the left(clutch) side!
Two flags:
The USA flag may be mounted on the rear of a motorcycle with any
other flag providing that,
A: The USA flag is always mounted on the right side of the motorcycle and
B: The second flag must be mounted on the left side at an equal or less vertical height.
Three flags:
When mounting Three flags to the rear of a motorcycle, and one of the three being a USA flag, the following should (read MUST) always be
observed ...
A: The flag of the USA be placed dead center between the two on
each side and
B: When ever possible the center mast should be at least ten percent
taller in height than the other two.

I lost five very good and dear friends on 9/11.

Stand tall, stand proud, stand in honor.

Never forget.

I have to agree on this one. I have never heard of the ten per cent, but higher then the others.

Only in one's own Country

Right you are, but remember when visiting another country, the country's flag is to the right (and higher, if possible) than our own. So when visiting the USA I would have the Canadian Flag on the left and USA Flag on the right. When I cross the border they get flipped back.

Of course those from the USA would/should do the same when entering Canada, Mexico etc.

This is incorrect! Per the US flag code, no flag, (with the exception of the religious flag flown on ships at sea during services) is to be flown above the US flag. When displayed together, each flag is flown at the same height on it's own staff. US flag is on the right, as you look at the rear of the bike. If you are a citizen of another country, fly your flag per your laws but not in a way that disrespects the US flag.

As per flag etiquitte, it can be flown from any position on the vehicle as long as its the tallest flag and no others are flown to the right side of it.

No, it is to be "on it's own right" - confusing but it is always to the riders right.

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong:dontknow:

When visiting ANY foreign country, visitors must follow the Laws of the Country, not their residence.
Although Canadian, When in England, Australia or the USA I must follow their laws, not Canadian Law.

As per US Law the flag pole must be firmly attached to the chassis of the vehicle. I am not sure that the licence plate frame would qualify. (http://www.legion.org/flag/code) and I just learned, never displayed between sunset and sunrise unless illuminated.

ISCI Tall Poles on the RT

I have the ISCI tall poles mounted on my 2012 RT Limited. While they are a great product and VERY well made, please DO NOT fly your flags at highway speeds for long distances or you stand a good chance of having them yank your license plate, and the flag poles themselves, right off the bike (don't ask me how I know). nojoke There are a couple of "wells" formed into the rear fender that form a flat spot on which the license plate is mounted. ISCI only provides washers that fit down inside this well (at least in my kit) when mounting the flag poles. The wind load at highways speeds WILL over time cause those washers to fracture the plastic fender -- to the point where the whole license plate / flag assembly is nearly falling off the bike. I almost lost mine on a Patriot Guard Ride but noticed it in time to remove the assembly myself and transport it all home before anything was actually lost or damaged. Spydercowboy (aka hogcowboy) fixed it by filling the two wells with water proof putty, letting it dry, drilling new holes, and using a plate on BOTH sides of the newly drilled putty (sort of made a sandwich -- license plate, ISCI bracket, plate, rear fender, putty, plate .... think you get the idea).

Now the assembly is SOLID ... but I still don't fly the flags at highway speed (at least not for very long); mostly used for parade or escort. The flags are furled and covered with a custom cover that I made when they are not being used for display.

Best Regards ..... Ann

Flag and Pole Size

But what size flags do you fly and how long are the poles?

Cando ...

  • The poles measure 26" from mount point to tip.
  • The flags are as supplied, and recommended, by ISCI -- they are 10" by 15"

My initial post about possibly loosing the poles and license plate was from personal experience. Perhaps ISCI has updated the mount kit so it is no longer dependent on washers sitting inside the well of the rear fender. I just know that we had to beef up the support structure or stop using the ISCI poles.

Best Regards .... Ann

I also thought of using that blank plug hole on the left rear side of the RT - was at J&P cycles today and saw some mounts but was sure if they would work on the blank plug hole...

and I noticed that that question was never answered in this thread.....

so does anyone know if http://www.rumblingpride.com/mm5/me...oduct_Code=ANT-SINGLE-KIT&Category_Code=TCM-K or this http://www.rumblingpride.com/mm5/me...P&Product_Code=13_Mast&Category_Code=FLAG-ACC would work? or using some sort of mod (such as a large washer or something under the blank plug hole (which I assume is for the cb antenna kit) would work?

RIVCO Flag Holders for the RT

Just a last minute suggestion - our RIVCO Trunk Mounted Flag Holders should work for your RT, all respect to to other manufacturers and forum members. Thanks!

I have flown my American flag in the left antenna hole with a flag pole that my son made me on my 2012 and now my 2014 Spyder when one guy told me to move it to the right side. i asked why and he stated that on a Motorcycle when you put it on the kick stand then the left side flag would be lower then the right side, is why you have to have your flag on the right side of the bike. I reminded him that on a Spyder we do not place our bikes on the kick stand so the bike does not lean over to the left and drop the left side of the bike down. My flag is always at the highest position possible at all times. If anybody can come up with a reason I can not fly my American flag on the left side of my Spyder that makes since to me I will switch it but if not I will continue to happily fly it on the left side of my bike from now on.:yes::2thumbs:

Anyone seen a flag pole for an ST? I like to fly my Fat Crip flag (International Signal flag Foxtrot- "I am disabled; communicate with me"), but other than a 5' ATV whip, I've not seen anything.
