Flag holder for RT

Sorry about this folks, but I disagree about some of the above mentioned opinions regarding the placement of the USA flag on the rear of a motorcycle due to some very personal and private experiences
I have been active with the AMA, CMA, Blue Knights, GWTA, GWRRA, AmVetRiders, Legionriders and ABATE for more than just a few years now. Each of these organizations have always suggested the following...
Single flag:
The ideal placement of a single USA flag upon a motorcycle is
dead center at a rear regardless of vertical reference (how high or how
low it is mounted on the rear of the motorcycle). Mounting of a single
USA flag may also be placed on the right side of the motorcycle,
preferably the highest of all options. But it SHOULD NEVER be mounted
on the left(clutch) side!
Two flags:
The USA flag may be mounted on the rear of a motorcycle with any
other flag providing that,
A: The USA flag is always mounted on the right side of the motorcycle and
B: The second flag must be mounted on the left side at an equal or less vertical height.
Three flags:
When mounting Three flags to the rear of a motorcycle, and one of the three being a USA flag, the following should (read MUST) always be
observed ...
A: The flag of the USA be placed dead center between the two on
each side and
B: When ever possible the center mast should be at least ten percent
taller in height than the other two.

I lost five very good and dear friends on 9/11.

No, I do not believe so. The licence plate holder is designed to hold the llicence plate and is not strong enough to hold the flag.

I got the ISCI flag/license plate holder mounted at Spyderfest. Excellent quality...and love that I can display our awesome flag in such a proud way on my RT. Highly recommend the ISCI products...super quality.hyea:

Patriot Guard Riders fly the American Flag and more on Harleys, Star, Victorys, Yahamas, Spyders, BMW, BSA, Triumphs, Duccuties (sp) Aprillas, Hondas, and many more because it is our FLAG

I have spendt the last two days in riding escort and standing the line for a Marine KIA. It was a Honor to be in that line. We escorted him to a final place of Honor. The Folded American Flag is a debt that can never be repaid.

Sorry to disagreee with you... I had the ESCI Flag mount with two flags, on the 2010 Blue RT for over 15,000 miles and Now I have the same holder on the 2011 Silver RT with over 3,000 miles and Yet have I had a problem with the License mounting system that ESCI provides. They WORK..

What are you using for a flag pole?
Assuming bolt through hitch bracket, how long is bolt and how did you secure the flag pole to the bolt?

:agree:The ISCI flag holder is truly the way to go on your RT. Both single and dual mount units are excellent products and, as others have said, are designed with the RT rear trunk position in mind.

I switched out to a 6 x 9 inch flag and I am very pleased with the look.

Man to me if you are proud enough to fly a flag, put it wherever it works ! I have mine mounted on the licence plate with no problems ( 12K miles so far .)

I rode down to Montgomery Sun PM from North of ATL and was at the ISCI front door at 0745 yesterday, per my arrangement made with Darrell.

They installed my "Hand Brake System" and the "Tall Two Flag" kit.

What a great company, range of Spyder specific accessories and superb people. They have a real
grasp on how to treat customers. Rode the Spyder back yesterday afternoon and all is well. Since my purchase of the RT in late August, everyone I have met with the Spyder program has been very professional and helpful. Hand brake kit and the flag holders are indeed top notch additions to The Big Red Bug. The flag holders are mounted behind the license plate and are very sturdy. If I could convince my wife to go back to work, I'd be ordering front shocks today. :yes:

Although I like ISCI and have some of their products (RT floorboards and highway pegs) I think their flag holder is great quality, but pricy IMO. I bought these, twisted them a little with a vice (they clash to the back end) and have rYden 3000 miles with them with no issues.:clap:

Flag pole is really a 5/8 threaded bar that was about 6.5 feet long.

Pic 1 & 4: Shows the bottom with two nuts on top of hitch. you will need a flat washer like the ones in the other pic to go between the hitch and nuts. Then slide the pole through the hitch and put on another washer and two more nuts.

Pic 2 & 3: Then two more nuts, a washer, a key clip like shown, another washer, and two more nuts. This allows the clips to hold the flag to the pole. You will need to make two of these. One at the top, and one spaced the distance of the flag.

Pic 5: Next take a cheep flag pole kit and cut to fit the distance between the nuts. This will cover the threaded bar. I found it best to mount the bar to the hitch on the bottom, and slide the pipe (cheap pole) on between the bottom and middle clip nuts for best fit. Then the pipe between the middle and top clips.

This pole works really good, and I was able to ryde the Spyder 70-75 MPH without it bending at all. Just make sure you have a good quality flag, as mine has only one ride left in it before I will retire it. Also, make sure to use the two nuts, as the second nut keeps the first nut from coming loose.

The cheap flag pole pipe is just cosmetic, and is only for looks. I have not been able to figure out how to cover the top of the pole with a topper yet, but then I have not really tried too much.

Materials needed: 12 nuts, 6 large flat washers, threaded bar (I would suggest to match the hole in the hitch), a cheap flag pole kit, and a good quality Flag. I used a 3 X 5, and it did not come close to touching the ground.

I noticed that. In this case though, for parade flag display, of a large flag, a trailer hitch is a trailer hitch.

$98 for single....$148 for dual.... $185 tall dual.... OMG... are these prices outa sight or what??? Hey. I'm just an old retired guy but these prices seem astronomical to me. Hey, whatever one is willing to pay is what an item is worth I suppose, it's the American way but "Dang"... not on my budget...

As for US flags, as long as they are the highest on the vehicle, and no other flag is being displayed to the right of them, you are good to go. I deal with this a lot on the boat, traveling into foreign countries.

Of course when you are in a nother country, THAT country's flag is the one one the right. That is the Canadian Flag would be the flag to the right in Canada and when I go to the US of A... The US flag gets put onto the right side.

Just for information. I have used the trailer hitch ( RT ) with a RIVCO UPRIGHT for several hundred miles during PGR mission. I use a ash wood pole with teflon tape on it for the pole. Good Flags are important. Mine is a 3 x 5. I usually do not go over 65 MPH with it.
Trailing edge of any flag can be treated a product called Fray Edge (Walmart for mine). I flew the 9 x 14 flags for thousand of miles before they started to fray.
I have looked at using the license plate and/or Inspector Gadject rack to fly the 9 x 14 " I am concered about even trying. I have seen Flags/poles come off during a Mission. Not a good scene.
