• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

First Two up Ride with issue

Sunday we saw a small break in the clouds and headed out for a ride on our new Spyder Rt. Ran like a charm for about 45 miles including climbing a mountain. We made a stop and when I tried to restart the Spyder nothing. Shut off key turn back on, read instruction pad, hit mode. Nothing again. I thought ok I'm missing something . Brake on ,in neutral, I was getting pertubed already. So I shut it off checked oil level, guess that took about 5 minutes, got back on and it fired right up. I have not a clue, lol. Also when applying brakes that are making a chattering type noise can't tell if it's a relay chattering or pads. Any coomments are welcomed.

Besides that episode it was a great ride and my wife loved it. Due to medical reasons is why we bought the Spyder so she could ride again comfortably. So far so good.

I had the same "would not crank" issue on about my 5th ride out and even posted about it. I went thru the start up process several times, nothing, not a bit of crank. I eventually popped the seat up and wiggled and pushed on the fuses under there and it started right up. They did not seem really loose, etc.. but it seemed to have fixed it and no more issues since.... so far.

I did this past weekend pull off my panels (Tupperware as its called here it seems) and finally got a look at the battery and the Positive connection did need several partial turns of screwdriver to snug up as tight as I thought it should be, so not sure if maybe that had something to do with it and not the fuses (maybe my wiggle and pushing on fuses made enough vibrations that it made the slightly lose battery positive connection get full contact?, I am not sure)

is your display going blank when you hit the starter or worse rebooting to the hit the MODE button screen?

if so there is a GROUND wire next the fuse box under the seat. its to a screw wired right next to the box. mine was lose and the dealer never could figure it out. I hit the starter with the seat up and saw the spark.

tight that screw down as well as check the battery .... but the ground screw is easy to find and tighten.

The chattering is normal, or so I ve been told. Mine seems to increase with more pressure on the brake pedal. It is especially noticeable at around 35-40 mph when braking.:dontknow:

Make sure to check the connections the others have suggested. I, along with many others, have found the battery cables and various other electrical connections in need of tightening.

As was said, check kill switch, make sure mode switch was pressed to normalize display, if SE make sure it is in neutral or your foot is pressing the brake (firmly), if SM make sure it is in neutral or the clutch is pulled in. If all else fails, taking the key out, and away from the Spyder for a minute may help. There could be simple issues causing it, like loose battery connections, a low or bad battery, or loose fuses or relays (most likely in the front trunk), but those often cause warning messages. Could even be a bad connection to the security module or a bad key/module. If the problem continues, see your dealer.

.

The sound is caused by the drilled Rotors (front and rear, though front are much more noticable). I laughed about it the first time I rode my RT as it reminded me of my old CRX I had. It had a 13" big brake kit w/ slotted and drilled rotors that made a very similar sound when stopping from above 20to30 mph. It has to do with the air getting trapped and released from the holes as the pad is pushed on to the rotor as its spinning.

Hope that makes sense. :coffee:
