• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. First time camping

I'm doing a little trip to Maine mid August and thought it would be fun to break up the routine and tent it somewhere in Massachusetts. I've camped for many years so am good on the food and what to bring stuff, but am looking for any input or advice on places to pitch a tent for the evening?

Good luck. I like to pitch my tent at Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn or Best Western. Setting up and tearing down a camp was no fun for me so my "First Time Camping" was also my "Last Time Camping"

I'm with you Ann.

Used to camp and enjoy it years ago, but in my SR years I like a nice motel, with a pool and a steak house near by.

I'm ever the optimist

I hear ya, but I think it could be a nice break from the hotel route. I'll never know unless I give it a try, right.:D

https://www.allstays.com/ is a good resource. I've referred to it several times over the past few years and found it to give pretty reliable info.

Try to do it and stay for a few days in one spot. On my trip we were going to set up and breakdown camp daily and that was a royal pain. We did spends a couple nights in one campground and that wasn't too bad.

Hi Gator37,

In my bicycle touring escapades I've stayed in all sorts of campgrounds: city, state and national parks/forests, KOAs, private anyname facilities, and church backyards. Some were better than others and some were "never do that again" places. A little bit of research should yield a number of options. With the exception of church backyards I have never encountered a place that declined to host motorcyclists.

:agree: I have set up and taken down for one night stops, but it's not convenient. If I'm going to be in one spot for two or more nights then I'll use my 'tent on a trailer'. I left it at home when I went to Homecoming. Taking into consideration the hassle of one night stops, decreased gas mileage, inconvenience of using the computer in the trailer or at McDonalds, the distance between bed and the bathroom, I decided it wasn't worth it. Plus, my nephew went with me and splitting the cost of hotels made it nice. But I will take it to Salmon, ID the end of this month for the Idaho District GWRRA get together. That'll be a four night stay.

Brent,
I am SOOOOOOOO glad to hear that you're now feeling up to a new adventure! :congrats:
Having said that: My Missus' idea of camping, is when room service shuts down before midnight...
Good luck, and approach it with a sense of humor: it'll be FUN! :2thumbs:

Whatever you do, enjoy the heck out of it.

I was a big camping afficianado between 1960 and 2000. Spent most summer weekends in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Northern MN along the Canadian Border. Thousands of lakes to go to. We portaged and paddled the canoe for miles, found a nice island on a deserted lake and made camp for a couple days at a time. That was our idea of camping.

Campgrounds are a little different and they will vary. One bad one is easily forgettable. Go for it if you are so minded.

At this point, we always motel or hotel it. I like TV at night, snacks, room service (if available). I sold all my camping stuff about 10 years ago--including the canoe. I'd rather Spyder by day and hotel it by night--for now.
