First service on 2017 RT

I was at my local dealer on Friday and decided to go to the service department to inquire about the cost of my first 3000 mile service on my 2017 RT He quoted me $480.00 but then said he can do it for $400.00 Is this the general price that is been paid for a 3000 mile first service??

Depends...

It does vary from one dealer to the next. If you have some dealers that you could call and see their prices it would be worth the time. It is in the ball park for a full first service. Some have done the oil and filter them selves and saved...

It all depends on what their hourly rate is... :dontknow:

My dealer charges about $200, but his hourly rate is only $65.00

My 3,000 mi service in Jan 2015 was $255.39. Where's the dealer hiding the gun? Annual inflation is nowhere near 19%, even in GA.

Generally better to allow the dealer to do the first service so they can check other things.

Slightly higher than most dealers by about 12%

I can not see what they could possibly do that would cost $480.00 dollars. We don't have a dealer in my area I would ever consider going to. I would just have to do it myself.

I just got my 2017 F3T serviced for its 3k. It cost 235.00. I dealer about 20 min away cost 480.00 for the same thing. Shop around, prices vary.

I think a 2017's 3000 mile first service is a lot different than a '13's first service though. I don't have my service schedule available for newer than '13's but its a different set of tasks and checks on the newer 3 cylinder 1330's.
I'm sure someone with a newer model could pipe in with the differences.
Our 13's were the last of the vtwin RTL's weren't they?

My dealer charges $130 per hour for labor. Most oil change/check out services cost me about $325 or so. Your dealer is a bit high compared to many posted by others.

The upside: The next oil change is 9,500 miles later or once a year--whichever comes first. Valve checks are no longer required.

I would recommend having the dealer do that first service.

That's close to what I was told by my local dealer. I also had state inspection and a laser alignment added on.

Thanks for all the input to my question I do believe another dealer quoted me $318.77 parts and labor included and $195.97 for just an oil change on the 1st of Feb. this year I actually put that info in my phone and forgot about it when I asked the young service advisor of my local dealer for a quote on Friday. I checked my phone today and found the note. The local dealer quoted me $480 and then dropped it to $400. I think their hourly rate is around $130.
Anyway I will be phoning around before the service is due and with this info on my phone I will go back to the local dealer and show them the info I have to see what they have to say and try and see if they would match the $318 or at least get a bit closer.

$250 for oil change

I am looking at buying a Spyder when I sell my Victory Vision this spring. I asked the local Spyder dealer what they charge for an oil change - he said $250 said it was about a 2 hour job.

I called another Spyder dealer 90 minutes away and they also said its a 2 hour job.

I've watched videos on YT and it does not appear to be a 2 hour job.

Shiney, The first time I did it myself, it seemed longer, but I can change Oil and both filters in less than an hour including cleanup. But that is on a V-Twin 998 that's been moded to allow easier faster changes.

Just got off the phone with a dealer about 50 miles away, which is about as close as any dealer with a good reputation, and they estimated $300 for "first service"; about 2 hours he said.

Gonna have them do an alignment too. Forgot to ask what that will cost.

Well all first services are not the same depending on the shop. Get a list of all the things they do and

make sure they all get done. Some mechanics cut corners or are faster than others. Make sure you get

what your paying for and that they follow all the recommended procedures and checks not just an oil

change. I would suspect those that are $200 or less.

Its NOT a 2 hour job.

Must be HOJ

I had my RT's first service done July 2014 in southern Ohio too, Honda of Jackson.
I asked to watch and was let in. All that was done was an oil change, checked the torque
on the wheels and checked the lights. I'm thinking it was about $145.
I"ve bought new bikes before but never have had a first service done. But I spent $31 large
on this one and wanted it on record the first was done where I bought it.

The dealer where I bought my RT did my complete service for $200.00, that was In southern Ohio..
