• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

First service on 2017 RT

2 hours?

When I started doing my own oil changes it did take about 2 hours. About 45 minutes now.
I jack my '14 RT-S up, use 2 oil pans and drain the oil. Then I get up and take all the tupperware
off to change the filter. This takes the most time. After that's done I replace the drain plugs and refill.
Start up and check for leaks then put it all back together. I've done it so many times I have a routine.

I am looking at buying a Spyder when I sell my Victory Vision this spring. I asked the local Spyder dealer what they charge for an oil change - he said $250 said it was about a 2 hour job.

I called another Spyder dealer 90 minutes away and they also said its a 2 hour job.

I've watched videos on YT and it does not appear to be a 2 hour job.

I suspect that most dealers use a shop "rate" book for each job. It has most jobs pegged by x hours of labor. They use that mostly unless they run "overtime," then I am guessing they hit you for more. No dealer does "actual" time any more. Car dealers do the same all the time.

First Service

Bottom line, your dealer is a crook. if he really wanted to sell and service Spyders he would be more reasonable.
My 3000 mi check was under $100.

I did my own first oil change.

Maybe I’m being unwise (stupid) here but I read prior to making my decision about this that the first service is basically an oil change and just checking wheel lug torque and then basically looking the machine over for anything that looks like it needs to be addressed..! I talked to the service advisor at the dealership and was told to keep a log of my oil changes and the receipt of the oil change kit that I purchased from them and I would not do anything to hurt the warranty on it. Took me about 1.5 hour to complete this. Maybe I’m missing something here but I have been wrenching on bikes my entire life and think I should hopefully know what things to look at. And by doing this myself saved myself a lot of $$.

Here we go again. ASSuming things and making absolute pronouncements.

There are several possibilities.

The most likely ones are:
The shop labor rate is a LOT different in one area than another; in some cases, twice as much.
And that's not just for Spyders but for ALL vehicles.

The other one is that YOUR dealer is a crook and didn't do what he was supposed to do for a first service.

I was at my local dealer on Friday and decided to go to the service department to inquire about the cost of my first 3000 mile service on my 2017 RT He quoted me $480.00 but then said he can do it for $400.00 Is this the general price that is been paid for a 3000 mile first service??

Absolutely not.. we were at Star City Motorsports in Lincoln, NE this past week and inquired of their costs. they would do the complete oil change with the BRP kit, etc. for $175.00
Other dealers in our area are either side of $200.. $400 seems to be off the chart. just an FYI
BIG F

No flames here. I think you are right on track. If you have the mechanical ability--that is a plus with :spyder2: ownership.

RE: High Rates: I am sure they give the oil change service to their rookie/untrained mechanics to do--so it is going to take the maximum time.

I have mentioned many times that after every oil change service I have to check and make sure they put the body panels on correct. They miss em every time.

$180 April 2017

I’ve was only $180 around this time last year and 1 hour of labor.

Your dealer seems very high.
