After getting my Spyder legs under me with around town and countryside riding, I decided to set about a 700-mile plus ride to Daytona and back on the interstates between Macon and Daytona. Here's what I learned about my riding at highway speeds (75-80 mph). I first learned that my grip was too tight, affecting my enjoyment and the ride. My hands and neck were cramping like crazy. When I realized what was happening, I curled my thumbs under the grips with my palms resting on top and my loose fingers dangling in front of the grips. This resulted in a smoother and more comfortable ride.
Another thing learned was a custom seat makes the ride more comfortable. We stopped at the Corbin store and they hooked me up with a loaner saddle. They said it was free, but in reality, it cost me just over $1,700.00. The new seat will be delivered in about 4 weeks. I also learned that rider footrests are a must. My legs got pretty tired just resting on the rider pegs.
Finally, I learned that we are a rarity. I only saw one other Spyder on the road, but lots of people craned their necks getting a look at my ride. ...Don
