• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. OK here's it is – Bad day news.... We got home from a short week on the road, Our Two spders were waiting on us when we got to the yard. Our 35 anniversary is Monday so I bought my wife Cyn a i-phone. After the Apple store we went by Lisa’s (our daughter) new home, then on to Eddies( a friend) to get Randy ( another friend) as I was pulling out of his driveway I could smell a strange odor plastic burning. hmm oh well stuff smells when you are in open air. Then felt heat in between my legs OH my spyder is on fire.. hey dummy get off – OH wait stop the the bike first... Smoke then flames disconnected the trailer.. cleaned out the trunk, all while Randy ran to the house and grabbed the fire extinguisher ran to Spyder and put it out, I had already called 911. Fire department showed up sprayed it down more. Now it’s setting in Eddie’s yard got to go get it tomorrow.... I just hope INS covers it well! I will upload pics tomorrow. Fire was on the right side just behind the air filter.

Sorry I couldn't tell from the picture what year it is. Have you had all of the service bulletins done on it? I think I recall hearing that there were a few 2008's that burned up.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Hopefully your insurance will cover it and get you on the road again.

Was your Spyder up to date on recalls? I had thought BRP resolved the fuel system issues that were causing these fires. I'm really glad no one was hurt.

no need to be sorry

As far as I know yes all updates were done. I purchased it used with a service agreement from big #1 and was told that all were up to date.

I live in Birmingham and have a trailer. I haul my Spyder on it with no problems, I have tie down straps with the trailer. If I can be of any assistance please call me.

Please keep us posted, I have a 08 and I'm very interested to find out what happened. As said before, sorry that it happened. :(

Glad you are okay.

I've been on this site for awhile and I don't believe there was ever a definitive answer as to why there were (a few) fires on the earlier GS's. At some point there was a bulletin (with s/n break) that req'd extending the vent hose. Of course no one could ever explain why the s/n break. My spyder was not within the s/n range; but, I contacted Carlo b/c I had the short vent hose and he contacted my dealer and the dealer replaced it with the longer one. Some think that was a fix to prevent the possibility of a fire; but, that was just speculation and not fact.

Because of a problem I had recently, I know that if BRP is going to do something for you (specifically) they have a non-disclosure clause, which may be why we never heard much in the way of what the actual cause may have been on those spyders that caught fire.

I do hope your spyder is up and running shortly without any insurance problems.

FIRE

So Sorry, But let me say you are one COOL HEADED FAST THINKING DUDE,:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:...Mike :agree:

Sorry for your fire... but glad you're all okay.

I wouldn't trust anyone that the updates were all done... except a dealer who hooks it up to BUDS to make sure.

:cus: Evap canister.... worst thing ever. I'm so glad I don't have mine installed anymore!

Certainly looks like the fires reported previously for the 08's and supposedly cured by the extension of the canister tube...Don't think there were fires with any other year..

glad you made it off in time to prevent from being part of a
wiennie roast, and someone was fast on the draw with a fire
extinguisher.

Stuff like this scares the crap out of me.. I am afraid to take mine for long rides..mine is a 2009 sport

Don't be, just ride, We still have another one and will still ride - hope to get back to a two spyder family before long.

I had asked Big #1 if all the updates were done they said yes.... It had bothe a zip tie and a longer vent hose. (I was told never saw a short one on it...)
