• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Fire

Stuff like this scares the crap out of me.. I am afraid to take mine for long rides..mine is a 2009 sport

There is an extremely easy, virtually free, permanant and 100% effective cure for this. The Canister-Ectomy!

For the very few Spyders that might possibly have this issue, this is the way to go. Why ride in fear when you can have peace of mind?

M bike went up in flames two weeks ago, in the process of getting repaired

So sorry to hear that,

UPDATE!!Ok,
I am in the process of setting up a "SPYDER RELIEF FUND" account. Any and contributions are welcomed and all proceeds will go to repairing and/or upgrading my Spyder.

LOL
Talked to ins lady.. sure didn't sound like they know how to appraise a spyder.... yep I am a bit worried

Medicineman

I had a conversation with a fire investigator just 2 weeks ago. He said that he had seen several earlier models of the spyder catch on fire because the tube from the evaporator canister was allowing fuel to drip on the manifold and catch fire. He said that the vent tube had been moved and solved the problem. I do not know if Can-Am did a recall and correction or not.

I'd be curious to know if the bikes affected were 100% up to date on campaigns from the dealer.

Check post #11.

UPDATE

The appraiser came out, he said I do not know enough to appraise it. not hear back from the ins co as of now. BUT tomarrow I am taking (sending it) to the dealer.

As for the longer vent hose it was done. and a zip tie....

Even without a tutorial it's pretty obvious what needs to be done to get the Canister-Ectomy done.

Here is the link. Personally, I highly recommend it. BRP can't do anything but put band-aids on the early design which caused all the issues. Band-aids burn too!

Canisterectomy

:agree:

But... if his Spyder had the updates then what gives with the fire? Are the newer Spyders that different-- or are they the same with just the 'update' applied?

I personally won't have one of those :cus: Evap Canisters on any Spyder I own......

Update official word

Well talked to Ins man - 3 different ones today - word is it is totaled. stock value $13,100 - no word yet on the extras.

Cause of fire undetermined.

Undetermined by who.... Having been in the fire service for 33 years I know there is an official and sometimes a more accurate unofficial determination.

Agreed. As a former USAF air/ground accident imvestigator and volunteer fire investigator, there usually is something to complete the "paperwork".
