Finally got my Spyder!

As many of you know, I sold my Ryker Rally about 2 years ago with the intention of buying a Spyder for more comfort and with a desire to tour when I can. But then life, life'd and I had to put a hold on things. I have been continuing to look and recently found a 2016 F3-T SM6 for sale nearby and brought it home today.

It only has 5400 miles on it and other than a few superficial scratches on the hood, it seems to be in good shape. It does need an oil change and the recall completed. If there is something else you recommend for maintenance, please share.

I'd like to thank a few forum members who have given me advice along the way such as @BajaRon, @blacklightning, @Sarge707 and probably a few others.

That's a nice looking Spyder you have. Enjoy it and have lots of fun riding that pretty Spyder.

You've a sharp looking new ride. You don't say what kind of maintenance records you got with the purchase so since it's new to you, the best thing you can do is go directly to the scheduled maintenance section, pg 91 of your operator's guide and look for the items listed in the section that are to be done at 28K miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should be changed every two years and I think that includes clutch fluid. In a quick scan I note coolant and fuel filter.

My '19 Ryker Rally had about 1k on it when I bought it and around 6k when I sold it. I had it for a couple years and never had a single issue with it. It was great. But I didnt like some things.

- I never liked it at highway speeds. I always felt that if you moved your hand even slightly on the throttle it would drop speed quickly due to the CVT and engine braking;
- I also did not like running 7k - 8k rpm on the highway;
- I wanted something more suited to slightly longer weekend trips and the possibility of some touring; and
- Lastly, my wife rarely rides with me, but she wasn't ever super comfortable on the Ryker.

So while my Ryker was great and trouble free, it just wasn't the right machine for me. I actually didn't think I could find or afford an F3-T and was just going to get a regular F3, but then I found this one. I still don't love the red, but to have a touring model and manual transmission in my price range, I had to jump on the chance.

HI delkhouri,

Congrats!

You might want to check the tires to see they are in good shape (treads). Check the air pressure. Also check all of the fluids. Does it have a sway bar?

Check the brakes.

Deanna

Very nice looking Spyder. I have become spoiled with the SE6 transmission, but the SM6 is loads of fun. As for recalls, I think the only one for the 2016 model would be the drive pulley. There is no shaft recall on that year (I still have a 2016 F3L). You should be a lot more comfortable on that than the Ryker.

Brakes and tires are in good shape, the pulley recall has not been completed, but I will take it to the dealer and have them do that, and change the fluids.

I will probably do the BajaRon sway bar, or at least the end links. My Ryker had the bar and links done already when I bought it.

Congrats on the F3, delkhouri. Have you had a chance to ride a few miles? Hope the weather is cooperating.

Sarah
