Filled with Gas and now getting Error Codes C0063 and C006C - Twice!! Ideas?

Hey all Spyder Lovers.

I have a 2014 Spyder RTL. A few weeks ago I stopped for gas and filled up with 94 octane. I left the gas station and 2 miles down the road my bike went into "Limp Home" mode with errors C0063 and C006C. I took it to the shop, they cleared the codes and drove the bike without getting the codes again. (I've probably put a couple of hundred miles on it since then) Today I filled up at the same gas station and the same octane fuel and again had the same codes with Limp Home mode. I don't understand. Has anyone had a similar experience? Or, does anyone have any insight or direction?

Well, that is bizarre!!!!! ..... Did you hear a "click" when securing the Gas Cap???? ..... and Why are you using 94 octane???? I have the same Spyder as you have and have had NO issues using 87 oct. for the past 69,000 + miles ..... annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd most folks here also use 87 - with or without Ethyl .... good luck .... Mike .....

Ps: did they bother telling you what those codes meant?????

Hi Blueknight911.

Yup. The gas cap clicked when I put it back on. The error codes relate to VSS and the ESM.

Was it the same pump as before? Maybe something with parking/exit position to get those codes. A battery load test & terminal cleaning, just preventive, may help, & staying away from that (gremlin gas) station whenever possible.

For what it’s worth, I have also used 94 octane. For me, it was the only corn free gas available up here (pure gas) and never had an issue with it...RTS ran good...always!

I'd also guess that the gas you're using/where you get it from is really just a co-inky dink! :p . For what it's worth, there's a bunch of threads out there already that come up with these codes in them, this one below sorta pointing at the Yaw sensor &/or steering angle sensor or excessive front end play - but it's just one of many returned by typing those codes into the Search box up in the top right as follows: 'C0063 ; C006C' - & the thread:

That said, are you sure you're not riding or even just touching the brake pedal?? :dontknow:

It's probably more likely to be directly related to the sensor/those errors, but then again  . If there's something different in the way you leave the driveway or forecourt of that servo, or maybe there's a sweeping downhill/uphill/off camber turn as you leave the servo.... :dontknow: . But IF, then it juuust might be worth checking the pedal is returning to the OFF position properly - if your brake lights stay on for any reason, ie. touching the brake pedal; riding the brake pedal/trail braking for too long; pedal switch dirty; pedal return spring weak; anything.... or even if your brake light goes off but the brake pedal/micro switch doesn't fully return to the OFF position, you will often confuse the Nanny so that she thinks you're doing something odd or possibly still braking or slipping sideways or obpunder/over steering for a bit too long so therefore something must be wrong & the computer searches for an appropriate code... with not so necessarily great results!! :banghead:

Just sorta thinkin' out loud..... :dontknow:

Over to you. Good Luck!

Thanks Peter Aawen.

That gives me a little more to look at and consider. Thank you.

VSS Limp Modes C0063 C006c

So I just purchased this bike, or should I say trike? Anyhow, as it sits right now, I can start the bike up, normal start up procedure, sit there for a minute for warm up, and after the startup sequence of course I get Limp Home Mode. There are only two codes, C0063 & C006C. I have read and read and read everywhere on the internet and also on this forum that there could be a yaw rate sensor error. I have looked everywhere on the internet and at parts diagrams and such, and I cannot find that sensor anywhere on this trike. I do have a picture of it. I do know what it looks like. I'm a very good mechanic, I have been riding bikes 40 years, and I'm a very good with electrical stuff but I just can't understand this. I don't even have to drive the bike; as soon as I start it, limp mode comes on, and of course there's only two codes!

I have checked this whole machine over and cannot find this sensor anywhere, although there is an empty plug if you're sitting on the bike on the right-hand side forward cylinder head; nothing's plugged into it, nor does it have a cap. Can anyone help me out? I'm ready to just give this thing away, I can't handle bringing to a dealership; not that I should have to with the money that I forked out for it. Thank you and God bless.

Just a few extra pointers: No, I don't ride with my foot on the brake. Yes, I have checked both brake switches, the brake light switch and the low-pressure brake switch. What else is wrong - the only thing that has happened to this trike is that the rear ABS sensor has been replaced at some time. Other than that, it has a few other minor problems, like not shifting into reverse smoothly and so on; but I'm not worried about them, I'm more worried about the Limp Home Mode. I have not been able to enjoy this bike at all. Thank you for your help.

That's C0063 and C006C. Number 5 in pic.

..... I'm ready to just give this thing away .....

I enjoyed my last visit to Kentucky a few decades ago, and my brother lives in Tennessee, so what's your address?:D:D

FAULT CODE TABLES - ECM Module

C006C
ECM
VCM error or failure reported
(CANBUS) Communication intermittent/erratic and/or Check Sum Error.
May be triggered by U0122 (ECM) or U220B (ECM) or any VCM DTC.
Blown fuse.
External troubleshooting is not possible.
Check for communication fault.

Yaw Rate Sensor (YRS)

The YRS is located on top of the frame, at the front of vehicle.

YRS Connector Access
To access the YRS connector, refer to BODY subsection and carry out the following:
– Open the seat.
– Remove console module.

Since you are a very good mechanic and since your Spyder has a few niggles beyond this problem, it's time to buy a service manual.

And to share a bit more information about your Spyder, such as year, model, mileage, service history... You know the drill.

On a car, that is the symptom of a bad purge valve. Not sure if a Spyder has one?
