• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Farkle - Farkle - Farkle - and Farkle Again!

So tonight I started my next set of major mods (farkles). Since riding season is fast approaching I finally got around to starting what I had planned to do over the winter. ;) I just hope I can get it all done and have the Spyder back together in a few weeks. Actually I just hope I can get the Spyder back together.

Here's what I have planned:

  • Remove all of the gray cast aluminum and have it powder coated
  • Replace handle bars with new Can Am tri-axis handle bars
  • Install Baja Ron's sway bar
  • Replace air-box with Kewl Metal performance air intake kit
  • Install Gorilla alarm system
  • Install cargo nets system in trunk and side compartment lids
  • Replace side and mud flap reflectors with Custom Dynamics Bright Sides

I have some of the stuff already and the rest has been ordered and paid for and is on the way.

Here I am in the middle of removing the foot peg support casting. :gaah: This was a real PIA.

Confused..!!

If your running chrome front wheels why powder coat the rear wheel and sprocket..? From the other post you seem you have made it all the way to the rear end that was the hard part. The rest should go smoothly and your only delay may be third party work. You'll be on the road on time I'm sure..good luck..

I wonder if the powder coat will look "harsh" next to the chrome elements that the Limited has?:dontknow:

 Did I hear somebody say, "Farkle"??
This is the time of year to be digging into what is already a perfect bike; and then make it even better! ;)
Please keep us informed as to your progress, and GOOD LUCK!

David, are you at all worried about passing Virginia inspection with the Custom Dynamics Bright Sides? Does the original reflector piece go over top the LED lights? I've been wanting to do that mod but my concern for the inspection has stopped me. My previous trike had some LED lights that they let pass for one time only. Turned out the trike didn't work out for me but the Spyder did, so it was a non-issue. Don't want to go through that again!

I cant imagine why the lights would be an inspection issue as long as they work. They replace the reflectors and get wired into the light circuit. There are lots of spyders in VA that have them. There were a couple on our Skyline Drive ride that had them.

If the issue is one of having reflectors on the sides of the bike at the front and rear; couldn't some reflective tape be added in discreet locations? :dontknow:

All lights must be DOT approved

My local inspector, who does our cars and has done my bikes, found a non-DOT LED on my trike. I was unaware of the regulation until then. I'm wondering if the reflectors can be placed back over the Bright Sides. The reflectors are good to go, so no problems there.

 I think I'd look for an inspector whose eyesight is waning a little bit...

Bob, by the time they get to be my age and their eyesight is going/gone, they are too old to do the work. More and more of the world is younger than us now. Beats the alternative of us not being around!!

I hesitate to talk to the folks at the dealership because if things go south there I potentially mess things up for other people. Do NOT want that to happen!! :yikes:

Bob, most states will allow LED turn signals and markers in place of reflectors, even though they are not DOT approved. You can still put these in, just add a small DOT approved reflector next to it. I contacted my insurance co. (State Farm) to make sure that in the event of an accident, I was not null and void due to no reflectors. He said that I was fine. Then again, this is farmland MO. and our bank has a sign on it that says 'Concealed Carry Welcome Here'. You don't see that very often. I'll have to take a pic of it next time I'm there to prove it.

I've had them on our RT for over two years now and no problem with VA inspections at FMS.
