FANCAN AND BLOCKOFF PLATE?

Im thinking of getting a fancan and spyderpops block off plate without cutting a hole in the plastic underneath. Is this a good idea or has anybody tried this?

I have both and had no issues in 2 years. However, I recommend removing the splash boards underneath. This has been recommended by Lamonster and Harvey (Spyderpops).

I have both installed, but would not even consider it without removing the lower cover/pan. No joke.

So whats the point of the fancan if the whole lower cover is removed?
Oh ok I see now I took a closer look and the lower cover opens up the bottom of the engine compartment I thought it was the radiator compartment. Thanks Guys I will be sure to remove that cover.

I installed the block off plate and dropped the pan but I have not ordered the fan can yet and now I have more heat on the foot when on the floor boards. Did the fan can reduce the heat coming from the lower vent a great deal for ya'll?

Fan can

Hi there, I have just recently installed the fancan on my 2012 RT Limited. I also removed the bottom panel. I have put on close to 3000 miles since the installation and I can report no ill effect on engine cooling and performance. The operating temps/fan operation have remained same as they were prior to the installation. The hot foot problem is a non-issue on the right foot. Great product and design, a simple idea that really works.:2thumbs:

Can you post a few photos of the fancan installed? Did you have to modify the air scoop or radiator fan shroud?

Thanks in advance!

I installed a blockoff plate last weekend & removed the bottom plate. It's an improvement but not all I was hoping for. Maybe if I obeyed the rules???

The upper block off plate is intended for those who use highway pegs. If you don't use highway pegs or place your feet out on the water deflectors you're barking up a tree that doesn't have a possum in it. So to speak ;)

Also, it's worth your time to take a look at what part of the country, and the average temperatures there, when someone says something works for them. We are not all equal when it comes to how hot it is where we do the bulk of our riding. JMO & lesson learned.

That's it installed. Fits the 2012 perfectly, you can count on a good 2-3 hours to install it, the fan shroud has to be removed, the most time consuming part, aside from the tupperware, is trying to remove the bottom l/h bolt on the fan shroud. As I stated before i removed the pan as well, I see no requirement for any additional mods to solve the hot foot issue.

Same experience. If you just use the lower block off plate and do not use highway pegs, you will eliminate the right hot foot issue.

Somtimes.

I'm 6' 4" with a 36 inch inseam and my right knee gets hot already from the upper vent. If I were to block off the lower vent I would only move the problem to a new area. Much like those who block things off and end up with hot air coming up between the saddle and the glove box.

You said it best when you said (pretty sure it was you?) "it's like chasing a moving target."

One thing I've learned here is there are a lot of variables to consider when it comes to why something works for one and not for the other.

Same as you, put on baker air wings after blocking off lower and it solved my problem. You may look forward to the heat if you winter drive as I do, so I did not want to get rid of it just redirect it.

Thanks for the suggestion neighbor.

We were riding on January 1st of 2012. It was 32 degrees F....so the heat was nice, including the multiple thermal layers and several stops at the local coffee shops.
