• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I notice that folks reporting difficulties or problems with their Spyder on Can Am Spyder's facebook.com page are getting almost immediate responses.. Something to keep in mind when looking for BRP assistance.

facebook

facebook is not too bad i went on to find an old Army buddy and got hits form family members i haven't see in many years. i don't get on a lot but it's ok. never found the Army buddy.

I think FB is like so many things we have. Like cars, bikes, money. ALL things in and of themselves are not good or bad. It is what we individually do with them that makes them good or bad. I have friends that use their cars to take food to those in need. We all know people that use their cars for very stupid things. I have some (former) FB friends that give too many people waaaaay too much information. I really don't care if you had toast and a good 'private time' in your WC. I've also gotten to see pics and video of my newest granddaughter posted by my son-in-law from his phone within minutes of her birth.

FB has a really simple way to de-friend someone. I'm really picky about who I friend (by the way, when DID that become a verb?!) but occasionally I mis-judge or someone gets on a soapbox. I have de-friended about 10 people. This makes my FB world pretty well controlled by me.

I really joined to make it easier to follow my kids and grandkids lives. sharing pics and videos is super simple and we're far more connected now than ever. I HAVE reconnected with about 5 people from my past too as a bonus. My wife is an LPC (basically a family therapist) and she tells me she is seeing lots more breakups that have had contribution from FB and other social networking sites. Call it 'virtual cheating'. Again... it can be used for bad.

I love being up to date with FB postings from CanAm, non-profits I support, Nissan Leaf and other news I'm interested in following.

What I'm about to say is gong to be controversial. You may choose to avert your eyes from this paragraph. SpyderLovers.com is a social networking site with many of the characteristics of FB. It allows each of us to share in the highs and lows of life with people of like interest. I LOVE this place. I feel like I'm part of something special going on in the world. I feel that I'm part of a group of people that care about me. Now.. I CAN'T control WHO joins, nor should I. On FB, the friends I've allowed to join 'my world' share from one to about five things in common with me. Just like SL, I like watching what's going on in my FB friend's lives. I get tired of it and I turn it off or de-friend a person (Genesis 1:67 '... and on the 7th day God created the off button')! 98% of the time I like what I read on SL. 90% for FB. I think those are good enough for me to keep current on both :)

So.... we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

Bob & Scotty, you guys have over 2000 and 8000 posts respectively. You don't have TIME to Facebook. But its pretty much what we do here but in a different format. Its an annoying program sometimes but there are thousands of elderly shut-ins and others who wouldn't otherwise communicate with the outside world who uses it. And its use in the Middle East civil conflicts has been phenomenal.

i actually find it very funny that people come here to just say "Kirk hates computers"!
LOL. sorry am a Star Trek geek and have been for over 20 yrs.

but really, FB has it's place, just like this site, TV watching, and computer gaming. if you can't control any of your interests (or should i say compulsions?) then they are all bad, if you can then you choose what level of participation you have.

Sorry Forrest, you're just under 2000 posts. What guys our age or over needs is an iFace application so the cameras on our iPhones can recognize the people we see before we talk to them. Of course if we refuse to talk to them there may be a problem with our DPS .. Dynamic Personality Sensor.

Just so we understand each other, I didn't say Facebook was bad...or useless, just that I don't do it. Time is certainly a factor, not having a fancy photo phone is a factor, being a two-fingered typist is a factor, and being socially inept is probably a factor, too. :D If used wisely (and sometimes more frugally), I don't think there is a darned thing wrong with it for a lot of people. It is just not for me. I'm surprised I have endured so long here. I guess that shows the strength of SpyderLovers. I participate here in spite of my natural reluctance.

The reason this site is so popular is because of contributors such as yourself. Most people with the knowledge and experience, especially to your degree, refuse to share it.

Whether you use FB, My Space, or some other social site is immaterial. But the desire to share, and to be of service, is to be commended.

Some would probably argue that it is to be condemned, but thank you for the kind words. :opps:

BTW Scotty cool looking RT as your avatar. I assume its you on the bike. Is it true the red ones go faster or is it the blue ones? I trust your knowledge and experience on these important matters LOL.
