• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

F3L - Parking brake horn

This thing is ridiculously loud. It can easily wake the dead!

Where is it and how do I reduce the sound level to an OSHA approved level??

Thanks!

I have a 2011 RTS and found the beeper to be located on the printed circuit board under the instrument panel. If yours is the same way, I don't think messing with it is worth damaging the board and then being out $$$.

I can't really help with the 'where' bit (I suspect it's on the back of the dash module tho - top RH corner on the 2013 RT's ;)) but I know you're not alone in thinking it's just a little bit too loud.... I know a couple of people who have managed to muffle theirs a little, so it's there, but it won't wake up the kids 3 houses down any more - they told me the trick was about 6 inches of duct tape & a wad of acoustic padding; not sure where they put it, or how, but it didn't look like it was over their ears! :dontknow:

My suggestion is that you avoid hearing it by making sire that you apply the parking brake correctly, and disengage before you take off. Should be easy!:roflblack:

Solution: Apply your brakes BEFORE you turn off the ignition. Release your brakes BEFORE you try to move the Spyder in gear. This "noise" is activated for your own safety.

Yeah! You're hearing it for a reason!

Release or engage the parking brake in the right startup / shutdown sequence and you should never hear it!

Unless, of course, you have a reason to not apply it in the garage so as to facilitate easy access to shelving, etc. Regarding safety, I’ve never seen it move by itself in the garage.

Neal, if that’s all you’re trying to do, this is a non event. ;) Pirate, Utah Pete and others are providing the right advice above about “sequence”.

Park in the garage, put the Spyder in neutral and apply the park brake.....no beeping.... turn off the Spyder.
If you want to move the Spyder at a later time, turn the key on, release the parking brake (no beeping), and turn the key off (no beeping). Move the Spyder around the garage

or........after parking the Spyder in neutral and applying the handbrake, turn the Spyder off. Immediately turn the key back on and release the parking brake, turn the key off and walk away......hopefully your floor is dead flat for this option.

Really??????

.....just because I’m not YOUR hero, doesn’t mean I can’t be someone else’s, Pirate.:D

.....I KNOW I am my wife’s hero, she tells me EVERY morning......at least, I THINK that’s what she says.....but maybe I’m not listening properly :D

Pete

Sadly Pete, I must revoke your 'Hero' status. Your solution did not work.
But, it's not completely too late should you have a viable 'Plan B'.

Sorry Pete, I was more reacting to what appeared to be a bit of a sarcastic reply, not from you!

Yeah, I knew that, Pirate  ....... I just thought it was time for a bit of humour:D......and, like you, also use the method I mentioned all the time in my garage, so I’m not sure just what particular circumstances are impacting Neal. I might do a little more analysis in case my wording was inaccurate.;)

Well I certainly screwed that up, Neal. Sorry for misleading you. I blame my proof reader.:D

Why I included the step of “turn the key off” in my previous instructions is beyond my comprehension. You can only move the Spyder while the key is on (which is no issue).

Park in the garage, put the Spyder in neutral and apply the park brake.....no beeping.... turn off the Spyder.

If you want to move the Spyder at a later time, simply turn the key on, release the parking brake (no beeping), and move the Spyder around the garage. Once you have it where you want it, apply the parking brake again and turn the key off.
