• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

F3 died out

So got my new bike this past Sat. Yesterday it died while making a right turn off a 45mph zone. Thought maybe I hit the kill switch and brushed it off.
Well it happened again today same senero I am sure I did not hit the kill switch.
No codes and it starts right back up. I emailed the dealer so at least he knows but any thoughts from you guys would be much appreciated.

Were you making another right-hand turn when it happened?
How much fuel was in the tank?

The reason why I ask: I had a 1989 Jeep Wrangler that loved to stall on left-hand turns, when the fuel tank was below half-full... :gaah:
It turned out that the fuel pickup as just about kinked up into a ball, and couldn't move freely around in the tank to suck in the fuel...
I doubt that this is the problem, but I figured to throw it out there as something to cross off of the list of possibilities...

Wife just reminded me it happened on a left turn with her last night too. I forgot about that one.
Fuel is only down a couple bars.
I emailed my dealer just to mention it to him, he said if it keeps up to bring it in.

I would take it back to the dealer pretty quick, you might get into an accident if it quits at the wrong time.

I stopped at my dealer yesterday, checked no codes current or stored. I hit 385 miles today on my way work and it has not happened in the last 175 miles or so. Perhaps it was just a software glitch that worked it's way out.

UPDATE.....it did not happen from mile 330 to about 750, then it happened twice, once on a easy stop light slow down and other on a right hand hard slow down turn.
It's at Jim Potts in Woodstock, and Gater is going to check it out, he has a few ideas. (I mentioned I see and E in the gear position display on occasion while shifting, he said he was thinking gear position sensor before I mentioned that so we'll see)

I will post results:popcorn:

Mine went in after only 100 miles with a "service transmission " error code. I believe I saw the "e" on the display as well. Dealer said there was a brp bulletin about the issue. My engine never cut off though. Hope this helps and good luck.

I have not picked t up yet but was told it is ready over the phone, the work order states the gear position sensor was the bad and was the cause. That could make sense since I was always downshifting when it happened.
We will see, hopefully I can get some more miles on her before the snow hits.

One question I would be asking the dealer, not to try to trip him up but for information,
would be how a faulty gear position sensor would cause the motor to die...I can't see the connection.
If you get an answer can you post it here for our benefit, please?

Well, I think I can make the connection. It's just a guess but I can feel a couple of things happening while my F3 is upshifting.

The engine seems to cut out for a few milliseconds, while the clutch disengages and the upshift takes place. Perhaps the clutch doesn't even disengage. The engine may just cut out while the upshift takes place like the way motocross riders use the kill button to shift and not the clutch lever, so maybe it works like that?

That operation could be tied into the gear position switch in some way. Again, it's just a guess.

With all the electronics on these things I think anything can be possible if the computer is getting confused. I find it better to not ask as the lengthy explanation cuts into my riding time lol, and to be honest I think that was all they could find that was out of spec at this time.
