F 3 SE6 Limp Mode?

For sure..!!

The computers, the nanny, has been relaxed for handling purposes but mechanically it is still the same as the RT 2014/15...

From what others have posted, there is a limp mode, but now you should be able to drive up to (edit--correction:) 30 mph when it kicks in.

If you are getting it--it may be something simple like riding the brake unintentionally.

F3S Limp Mode

Experienced "LIMP HOME MODE" Yesterday, 30 MPH is max speed on the F3S while in this mode. My Spyder has had a "Brake Fault issue" since I drove it home from the dealer. New sensor is in route from BRP to the dealer under warranty but I've been able to ride it just fine until yesterday. 70MPH in the left hand lane when it decelerates to 30 mph! Very scary when traffic is behind you!!!!! No idea why after 1,100 miles it decides to go into limp mode?

Well damn. Not what I wanted to hear.

My 2014 RT went into limp mode (my fault) on the way home yesterday and I was still able to do 70mph in 6th, the rpm was limited but not the speed. My guess is the F3 would be the same.

Lamont, did it go into limp mode when you where going 70 or did you get it back up to 70? The rapid deceleration is the concern.

I was doing about 80 when it went into limp mode, I was able to pull over and play with it for about 3 miles to see what it was doing, I even took a video come to think of it. Let me find that.

When we pulled over and sat on the side of the road for 15 minutes with engine off, we were able to resume (speedo still said Limp Mode and engine light flashing) and got back to 70mph for maybe a mile then it again decelerated to 30mph and we limped home 15 miles. Today, started it up and still showed limp mode but went off in 15 seconds. I didn't drive it so don't know if it will come on again or not.

Update: took F3S into dealer today for Brake Fault sensors replaced and hoped that was also related to the "Limp Home Mode" I've experienced. Drove 20 miles with no brake fault warning but 2 blocks from home while pulling away from a stoplight got "LIMP HOME MODE". Engine idles at 1200 rpm vs 900rpm, dash warning scrolls across speedo, yellow check engine light flashes, and max speed of 30 mph. This unit has 1,186 miles on it and seems to run fine but now sporadic with this issue for no obvious reason. I've ridden a Spyder since Nov. 2008 and don't keep my foot on the brake! Any Ideas?

The only thing that stood out to me was your mentioning that it started to idle at 1200rpm. That is v-twin idle speed. It also seems to act like the old Limp Mode. The computer controls everything on the Spyder. Maybe they could try re-flashing the EPROM. Maybe the problem is in the brain?

Thanks! The tech at the dealer was getting on the phone with CanAm today. Scary now cause I just can't trust it when it runs fine then suddenly shuts down to 30 mph. I've never had that first problem with a Spyder and owned #727 Premier Edition 2008 RS, now I fear a lemon is lurking! I've added over $3K in accessories, now what.......?

The good news is that if the re-flash does not work, they can just swap out the entire instrument cluster. All the brains are behind the gauges and screen, in a box the size of a small loaf of bread. Let us know what Can-Am says.

That's the best news I've had so far!!!!!

Glad I could cheer you up a little. My only caveat is that I know nothing about the systems on the Spyder. I am speaking only from two decades of computer experience.

The instrument cluster is not cheap, I think it costs about $2k retail. That might be the fix of last resort for Can-Am.

The only reason I know about it is because I had to have mine replaced on my old RSS. Unless they changed it, your mileage will revert back to zero with a new cluster. The only thing that got saved when mine was replaced were the hours on the engine.

Let us know how it goes.

Update: F3S "Limp Home Mode" issue is solved. Turns out the Dumb Axx ( yours truly) who clamped on the cup holder to the handlebar pinched and damaged the throttle cable! The dealer found it when installing my heated grips! Lesson for me, don't be in a hurry!! [emoji108]

That is good news. I would have been really surprised if BRP had reverted to the old Limp Mode that immediately put the brakes on. With the 990 motor I was able to maintain 70 mph in Limp Mode, I believe that the RPM was limited at 5,000. I don't know what the limit is on the new 1330 and I couldn't really tell on Lamont's video but if you go into Limp Mode just remember that you will be limited on RPM so if you are starting out from a stop you will need to upshift well before normal.
