• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Expensive NON guarantee, 2nd report from Ireland

Hey Folks
You may remember my problem, bought a spyder in Florida, imported to Ireland and had a major problem with steering sticking. This is to update you on proceedings in the past few weeks.
Due to collect bike on Saturday 29th May after getting a new DPS steering unit/part which has cost a thousand Euros. New back tyre purchased and fitted another four hundred Euros and because I had most of the parts for servicing, total bill is one thousand Five hundred Euros. Exchange rate today is one thousand eight hundred dollars.
Guess this is one of the issues with buying and importing a bike from another country where you loose the guarantee.
Anyone out there know what a DPS unit costs and if its worth my while sending the defective one back to BRP to get a refund.
A friend of mine purchased a bike in England a few weeks ago with a guarantee for a year for about four thousand less than I have paid.
So this is a warning to anyone looking to buy a Spyder without a guarantee or from a dealer that you have not checked out fully first.

Sorry for your troubles--- but glad you're getting them fixed.

A new DPS unit runs around $870.00 US --- so if you can get a refund that would really be great.

I hope that after all is said and done, your bike runs well for you. As far as your DPS goes, I'd send it back and ask for some compensation...it can't hurt...you bought your bike in good faith, only to have been sold a problem (if I recall properly)...did the DPS have problems while it was under warranty and before it was shipped out? If so, I would mention this to them in a letter...don't expect anything, but you never know if someone there will help you a little...you are opening up the eyes of 'Irelandians' to the Spyder...maybe many there will want to buy one??
 
Just a thought, There was a Recall on the DPS, If your Spyder hasn't had the Recall done you might have some recourse.? :popcorn:
 
I am also sorry to hear that your troubles ended up costing you so much money. Best of luck with trying to get some money refunded for the bad DPS unit.

That's a nice offer...go to the place that sold him the bike as they should've addressed this issue before he got it...I hope you and a few of 'us' from down there can help this guy out.

I'm sure he'll cover the beer if you get to Ireland...BTW, was there in 2002...loved it! Nicest people in the world and you can go anywhere and feel quite safe as an American! I'd go back in a heartbeat...
 
Too late now but you probably could have purchased a regular car tire instead of the BRP OEM unit for a lot less money. Many here in the US are running Toyo or other brands with good success.

I would definitely pursue it. A dealer (probably non-BRP) with a known steering issue unloads this to a foriegn customer knowing that they would get out from under the problem. That was very wrong.

I personally am sorry that someone calling themselves an American would do this but we've got our share of bad apples here.

Agreed...this dealer should be held to task if they sold something that was known to have a problem...
 
Attempt to return to BRP for refund, or exchange if they won't refund. Sell the exchange to the next person in Europe who is in need of a non-warranteed replacement. They can then repeat the process.
 
Sorry about your problems, mate. I have been looking for a dealer in Ireland but can't find any even though BRP lists UK AND Ireland on their homepage. Who is doing your work for you?
