been reading on here about all the different pipes people are putting on taking off so here is my question I know one of the options is an different pipe but i havent seen anyone on here use it. why is there a reason why to change the standard factory pipe and if so why not use the accessory one offered by spyder instead of one by another company? sorry if my questions seem basic i just have never changed pipes on anything before and with everyone changing and trying all the different ones i know i have to be missing something......:spyder:

Some folks may want more sound (for example, a HD "potato-potato" sound which, BTW, isn't going to happen... maybe Ducati, but not HD).

Some may want more performance. BUT...very few pipes provide significant performance improvements without additional mods to the air intake and fuel injection systems. In most cases, louder is perceived as faster.

Some may just want to be different (like me). I've used the stock, Micron, Supertrapp, Hindle, and Yahama Warrior pipes. I like the Warrior best even though it is very quiet and looks like a chrome 155mm Howitzer hanging back there.

You ask a great question...I'm looking for the right exhaust system as well...do you go with the Hindle as it's the Can-Am recommendation, or an after-market that may or may not last too long?

As far as performance goes, I want more mpg and more hp...

Do any pipes do this? As far as how loud, I don't mind a little louder than the stock, but certainly don't want to awaken the neighbors...

I'm currently running a micron, but seriously considering returning to stock. I like the micron but after awhile the noise gets to me. I haven't noticed any considerable performance difference from stock. It can be deceiving because louder makes you feel faster.

I had a Hindle on mine for a while. It sounded cool, I did notice a slight performance gain and the Spyder ran a bar or two cooler than with the stock exhaust. After riding with it for the summer, I decided I liked a quieter exhaust sound so I took it off and sold it. I don't think the Hindle improved my fuel economy any but I could feel the difference in acceleration. Also, the rotax felt like it was running free with the Hindle. With the stock pipe back on, the engine has lost a touch of its pep and sometimes it just feels like its being held back a bit.

Brian, I think I fixed that feeling when I installed the cold air intake tubing. Give it a try, I would like your opinion.

When you ride w/ the stock pipe, you sound like you are riding a vacuum cleaner:dontknow:. So if you like to vacuum, I suggest you leave that sucker on. I ride w/ a 2 bros - very loud so if you don't like loud - don't get that one!:2thumbs:

I prefer my Hindle for the look more than anything else. For me, it just looks like it goes with the Spyder. If the stock can was smaller and had the same guard, I would even consider going back to the stock. I don't mind the louder pipe but I wouldn't mind the quieter one either if I liked the look better.

Its hard for me to think about cold air intake tubing when I'm riding in 40 degree weather. Supposed to be in the 20's when I ride home tonight and possibly snow on Sunday.

To me, the Hindle is by far the very best looking pipe. It's a perfect match for the Spyder. And, it's not too loud, at least the 4 times I rode the demo at the dealer before my Spyder came in.

I'm not sure, however, that over time it might get to be annoying. Something else annoying about the Hindle is the $600 (retail) price! That's a lot of $$$.

I might just keep the stock pipe. Although, I would like just a tad more noise, and a smaller pipe, too! You know what I mean.

I find it quite interesting all the folks here that went and purchased Micron's, and what-not; then went back to their stock pipe. But, I guess, I am not really surprised.

A few years back I put a straight pipe on my 2003 MazdaSpeed Protege. It was fun - for awhile. Then; it got to the point that I really only liked the sound about half of the time. I eventually sold it, and put the stock muffler back on.

I installed the two brothers dual carbon fiber pipes. They look really cool and are bad ass loud. Anybody interested in these, they're pricy but, I'll make you a great deal on a set .

Thanks for all the good input...I always thought that if you opened up the exhaust, you'd get better performance and better mpg...guess it's just the performance that goes up...hope with the hindle the mpg doesn't go down...

My wife promised me an exhaust upgrade as a birthday gift...trying to decide what to go with and I think the hindle is the safest way to go...plus, here in MD, the dealer told me that the hindle would pass any future emissions tests that MD implements...yes, it's true...the socialist union of Maryland is likely going to start emission tests for bikes!

Oh yeah...I have the zumo 550, scala rider 2, and I link to my phone...will the hindle be too loud to hear the navigation, music, and/or phone calls in the helmet? The stock is not loud at all and I'm not sure the hindle is overly loud...

exhaust pipe/mufflers

Since the spyder is unique to the after market and the only option that the factory offers is their own contract co.,Hindle.most of the spyder owners here have experimented w/different exhaust sys.I too have took the journey to find a suitable and inexpensive exhaust/muffler sys.Have used the Micron,bit too loud but performance was good.Tried the Hindle that someone ordered but didn't like and found it ok but abit subtle in the sound and performance department.Someone here suggested the supertrapp muffler w/2.25 inlet and 18"muffler w/adjustable tonediscs.I used the NMN elbow fabricated a muffler bracket and holder and installed it on the spyder.Iused 4 discs and the sound is more of a hefty sportbike sound and alittle less than a harley w/2to 1's.At highway speeds it gives an even mellow growl and i can listen to my XM radio at mid range at 65-70mph.Changed the plugs,added a KN filter and the lamont coldair induction and the power and top end are incredible!I can pull on the throttle and not even downshift to go into passing and the spyder keeps on pulling.Runs cooler and the idle evens out after the motor adapts to the muffler thru the ecm.Very happy w/this right now.1500mi.on this setup.Going to try a longer muffler possibly a 24"and see how that goes.:2thumbs:

I would view this remark with a little skepticism. The Hindle, like the rest of the aftermarket mufflers, does not have a cat converter. Some bikes have the cat before the muffler, but not the Spyder. The cat is inside. I would highly doubt that any aftermarket unit would meet EPA specs without it. Maryland may have their own standards, however. Nobody can reliably speak to the future like that, though. Sounds like "Tell them anything for a sale."
