Exhaust Wrap 2013 RT

I'm getting mixed advise... I have a 2013 RT Limited, yes the machine gets hot but its only an issue when the vehicle is not moving, I've had other parts in the vehicle crap out because of heat. Should I ? or Shouldn't I wrap the pipes ? it makes sense to hold back some of the heat generated under the plastic, but will it affect any other parts ?, My evaporator canister had issues due to heat also can that be relocated to a safer area?

You may want to contact MagDave about rhis... He did quite a bit of experimentation with wraps and barriers... He even took a lot of heat measurements along the way.

Extra caveat

Should you decide yo wrap your exhaust system. You will notice that your bike gets quieter as the wrapping tends to absorb exhaust noise !í

Keep moving! Seriously, motorcycles were not designed to sit still or move very slowly for long periods of time. Most will overheat under those conditions...or the radiated heat will affect the rider.

My 2 Cents Worth

I would wait till BRP comes up with the reason for the excessive heat and a fix. Why should you have to pay $$$$ for this when the heat issues are a BRP Warranty issue.

I had the recall done in Sept for a melted master cylinder and wiring harness & BRP did not do anything for the heat from the exhaust...:banghead:

I would contact your dealer and file a heat issue complaint with BRP, get a case number from them.

Got stuck in La Jolla, CA by Scripps Hospital for 90 minutes! My 2010 Rt never went above 5 bars...never turned it off. The Spyder is stock...no wraps, no coolant additive, nothing.

I have read too many posts about people with 2013 RT models and their fears of fires, etc., complaints about heat...If you haven't had the "patch", as you call it done, why complain. It is your not doing anything about it that just boggles my mind. Is it that you want to complain about something?

I think you're comparing Apples to Oranges. A heat-free 2010 RT can't be compared to a known 2013 heat-monster. Those with heat problems or anyone with a 2013 RT has every right to investigate anything possible to relieve this problem on their own. BRP isn't going to do anything about it.

That may be a long wait. In the meantime, you miss out on all kinds of fun and just get sour at the fact that you're still waiting. BRP has promised a fix. It's called a 2014. Just like the 2013 was the fix for the previous gen, but failed.

My recommendation is to spend the $30 on the material and a few hours wrapping and enjoy the ride going forth.

Nothing BRP will come up with will cool the heat under the Tupperware. If they were ever going to wrap true pipes as a solution, they would have done so way back when the 2010 RT came out or even before with the RS. It'll never happen and times awaistin'

:agree: I couldn't agree more. You can spend a few bucks to wrap the pipes and gas tank and go out and really enjoy your :spyder2:. Or you can whine and cry and blame BRP and be miserable until you sell the damn thing. Don't expect BRP to do more than band-aid fixes for dangerous situations. They could not care less if you wear shorts and flip-flops and burn your thighs and feet. You want to feel real heat?? Get a 2007 Harley Electra-Glide Ultra with a 103 cu in engine and ryde it in stop and go traffic in the middle of August. Not only will you learn to wear long pants and boots, but you'll find the 2013 RT is a refreshingly cool experience.

I agree about wrapping the pipes and not waiting on BRP because it won't happen, but I also think most here probably are mechanically minded enough to remove some Tupperware much less successfully wrap pipes. So they would need someone to do the job for them. I wonder what would be a fair price to have a shop do this for them?

I already have my wrap and am going to do my bike soon myself.

my 2012 rt would get hot sitting idol for that long. The problem in my opinion is the computer, and until someone can tweak the software to richen up the mixture nothing will change, it will still get hot sitting idol on a warm day.

:agree:

If you're new and have recently discovered things can get a little hot.

The recorded approaches to resolve heat problems are. The short list - Air box removal, hole cutting, blocking, wrapping, air diverting, towel stuffing, heat shielding, panel removal, and coolant additives. Just to name a few.

Pick your approach and post your results.

Suggestion. Don't do them all at the same time. Or, you could miss a ridding season.

And most of all. Don't let the heat you get here add to the heat you are feeling from your spyder.

I can tell you that a dealer will screw their eyes out on that job. It's not hard by any means but it is time consuming and that fact alone will cost big bucks! I did my own pipes and removed them to do it right and completely. Some of the hardware holding the pipes to the heads was tricky to get at but once you figure it out it's not hard. I would be willing to help anybody out with this that's close to me, no charge... well maybe a coke and a hotdog :D. I do agree that BRP is hanging us out to dry on this one, and that fact alone will put a bad taste in a person's mouth on the repeat purchase aspect. I think what pisses me off the most is the dealers lack of concern, their stories about "their all that way" just don't sit right with me!

Unfortunately, the 2013's were designed bad. That being said, if your seat is uncomfortable you would probably buy another seat, or if the handle bars are too short you would buy another set of bars. If wrapping your pipes will make the bike more comfortable for you why not do it. Would you expect BRP to change the seat or the bars for you? As was said before, BRP is not going to be able to fix this, you will have to. nojoke

Lot said..!!

but if you are just asking if it is worth it..yes..and as you have read above for several reasons. The problem still remains though...getting the heat out from under quicker. With the wrap it is less. As for BRP their best way to go here is ceramic coating...but will they..?? :dontknow:

Did you took your:spyder2: to the dealer for heat issue?. Dealers should should help you instead of diy.

Not to be negative, but good luck with that. They will do what BRP dictates or you pay for. Wrap, insulate, divert and be happy. That's what I did and haven't had a complaint since.
