• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Exciting Monday

Just to add to my excitement of a 35 degree trip in to work today...I nearly wrecked my Spyder.

Following a school bus through center of Syracuse...school bus was tailgating a semi truck. Semi truck
blew a tire which caused the usual huge tire strip to peel away. I saw brake lights on the bus so I dropped
back further than I was...then saw the tire coming at me in the center of the lane. No place to go with traffic
so I rode over the top of it. No loss of control...just a big speed bump. Got to the work parking garage and did
a walk around of the trike. Lots of black marking from the tire. Snapped a plastic piece back in place on the
inside of the fender. I think I have a single crack on the lower white plastic strip. Once I clean my shorts I will
go wipe down the black areas to see that the one crack is all I have for permanent damage.

Rode the :f_spider: about 3 or 4 miles after the event to get to work...no pulling to the side...no signs of leakage.
Tested brakes and they are fine. No signs of limp mode, etc. Think I really lucked out and should buy a lottery
ticket. Wife said...it is time to park it for the season. I said, we can talk later about it. Not ready to give it up
for the season. Will see who wins out on that one.

Work 10 hours and then the 1 hour commute home. Not sure what else to check on the ride.

 Glad to hear that your initial encounter went about as well as you could have possibly hoped for!
The low ground clearance of the Spyders might make them a bit more susceptible to damage; but it still usually works out better, than if you had ben on only two wheels...
Good Luck!

Yeah, that was one of my first thoughts after...that if I had been on 2 wheels it would not have been so pretty...between it being a very large tire strip and I know they have
sharp metal in the strips...yep, glad that I had a lot more around me when I went over the "speed bump".

If you have the time, (and a roll of Duct Tape....); take a look up under the bike, and be prepared to secure any "loose ends..." nojoke
Here's hoping that you don't find any!!

i rode in this morning nd it was just as cold but thankfully not as exciting as your ride in, hopefully all is well with machine

Yikes..!!

Those road gators can reek havoc. Really glad you handled it so well and have minor damage. Once saw a program demonstrating damage caused by large animals like moose, elk, deer and the dummies were tire treads wired into the shape of them. Some day they will not allow recaps and seconds on cross country rigs...

Pics

I just cleaned off some of the tire scuffing and bug guts and think I only have the 1 crack to deal with.

 It sure seems as if that one panel took the brunt of it...
it might just be easiest to replace; rather than try to clean and repair it :dontknow:

I need to check to see how large of a panel that one is to figure out cost of replacement vs
touch up. Everything else should rub off as the picture is after I got some of it off with water
and paper towel.

Kicking myself for not having gone after the truck to ID it and get a report done. It wasn't visible
to me until after I got off the highway for getting to my work.

No need to be kicking yourself over it; this sort of thing happens to all of us... nojoke
The best we can do: learn from these events, and do our best to not repeat them! ;)

I think the cracked part is #705007563, Vegas White Pearl LH Front Panel, $204.99. Ouch!

I wish. I think the part is Vegas White Pearl Bumper Cover #705007555 normally goes for $349.99 but goes for $319.99 at procaliber.com. I'm looking into options but
thank you for the info.

Take a small drill bit and drill the crack at the lower end. Will prevent further cracking. Common technique on aircraft fairings.

It's a common technique with most plastic and windshields, the trick is finding the g spot, pardon me in the gel coat 😉 to drill the hole. Putting some masking tape on the intended spot helps prevent the bit from wandering starting with a small bit first of course!

Letting the insurance company make it pretty again. Doing it right and completely will be close to $1000 in parts so after
labor costs I don't mind eating the deductible.
