There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Excessive oil consumption

I seem to have to add a quart of oil about every 1000 or so miles. I wouldn't think that this is normal. Any one got some info about this issue?

First, are you checking the level the right way as the Spyder will burn off the excess if overfilled. Take it out for a short run and get it up to 3 bars, then park it pull the left panel start it up again and let run for 30 seconds. I like it to be half way up to full because if its at the full mark it tends to burn it off until it settles in at the half way mark.

That is not normal.

My first question is how are you checking the oil level?

You should be doing it this way:

1. get engine to 1-2 bars operating temp.
2. remove panel to access oil tank.
3. turn off engine.
4. quickly remove dipstick and wipe clean.
5. replace dipstick, screw all the way down.
6. remove dipstick and check oil level.

You can probably do this 2 times before needing to restart engine and start over. If you wait too long or don't let the engine warm up and check it like listed above, you will get a low reading or no reading. If you restart - let it idle for 60 seconds and recheck.

You want to be towards the lower end of the oil range. Too much oil and it ends up as blow-by into your airbox. If you're taking the reading when cold and adding oil then -- you may be over-filling and just creating more blow-by oil for your airbox.

If you have excessive oil in your airbox you may be over-filling your oil.

Do you notice any drippage of oil beneath your Spyder?

Clean your parking space, go for a nice ride-- park it and see if you get any oil drips and note where they are. Oil sensor plug is a popular place for leaks.

It's not normal, The oil has to be going somewhere; ie leaking [you should see it under the Spyder]
Or your burning it. [In That case you should see blue smoke coming from the exhaust] Which is very rare these days.
Is it every thousand miles, Like you went 3 thousand miles and added 3 quarts??

:agree: with Firefly. You can also check the lower right side panel, just behind the radiator fan, to see if you have any wetness or spots of oil there. Once your airbox gets too much oil in it, that is the place where it will usually drip onto. That would be a clear indication of excessive oil and blow by happening.

Oil useage

After Due Re-Research, I believe I have been checking the oil incorrectly. My Bad. I'm due for an oil change, 4,800 miles... (rough count) I was thinking of running GTX 5-w30 for a 500-1000 miles, and then go back to full synthetic but with proper info, I think that I will just run the Mobil 1 4T full syn.
Thanks for the info, and I've had a Car that never needed an oil change.. oil filter every 6 months or so...

Fill up the oil and check the gas.

I would not recommend running this light an oil in a Spyder, nor running a dino oil like GT-X. The Spyder specification is for 5W-40, synthetic blend or full synthetic. Going to a 10W-40 is probably OK, especially in a hotter climate (although it still doesn't meet the spec), but going to a lighter viscosity could damage the engine, as could switching to a dino oil. You also need to avoid an oil rated API SM.

Before using the Mobil 1 4T you might want to do a search on this forum as their has been some reported problems with the new formula and clutch slippage.
