There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Etymotics Ear Buds

Problem solved and it didn't cost me anything extra. I put some velcro in the front of my full faces helmet near the mouth. Then I put some on the back of the clip on my Griffin italk microphone and put it in place in my helmet. I had my iphone in my Ram Mount and ran a rather hearty looking cord from the microphone to my iphone. The end of my earbuds plugged into the other end of the microphone and I tucked in any extra cord inside my jacket so I didn't have extra whipping in the wind. I set out and called Brian, I could hear him beautifully with my earbuds of course. He could hear me fairly well at speeds of 60 and 70 mph. I think if he had been on his bike with his earbuds, he would have been able to hear me even better. Another thing that may help with the voice sound is that I had the microphone up toward my face shield, it may get less noise if it was facing downward instead. I will try that. So I may not be cordless but I have great sound, a way to communicate with my husband, earplugs for road noise and very soon a turn by turn GPS all in one. the earbuds and microphone cord are easy on easy off and have their own handy carrying case. I am very happy with this set up.

I use disposables...reduce by 30dbs...rated very high...can use several times before throw away...

Got a box on amazon for about 25.00 for 200 pair...so, they'll be lasting a long time...

Purex 6800s or something like that...

Work great...can hear navi and the like, but air noise reduced a good amount...thank goodness...

With a motorcycle, it's not if you'll go deaf, but when...db levels with open helmets up to 130dbs, 109 with closed helments...you have to get that number down a decent amount to avoid deafness...

I did use those for a while but I wanted some good quality music while I ride as well. Earplugs with my headset just wasn't doing it and since we don't use the J&M anymore, the extra big cords are not necessary. These Westone UM1 earbuds are just the ticket. I can listen to music while they are still noise canceling. They are rated up to 25 dbs, not too shabby for great sounding music. But the whole point of this thread is not just for earplugs but earplugs while having music.

Hmmm...I have the scala rider speakers inside my helmet and I wear the 6800s and I can hear just fine...it's mainly the 'white noise' that gets canceled out with earplugs of any kind...if you have an open helmet, you can't get the dbs into a safe level anyway...with a closed helmet, you can...interesting on that point...

I have ordered the kit " Fuze Custom earphones " and am waiting for delivery.

You may want to check out " www.EarFuze.com " for all of their products and options..

I just checked out the website. Those look really nice Forrest. Let me know how they work for you. I really like the Westone's I have as well. Also, they have a braided cord for extra strength. I also like the way I have it set up now to get phone and music all in one place and it is easy and not messy.

... noise canceling. ...

Sorry for getting too picky but they are noise isolating not noise canceling. A big difference in technology. Noise canceling earphones / earbuds use circuitry and tiny microphones to measure outside noise and try to create an opposite waveform of the outside noise. That is then mixed in with the desired sound (talk or music) to erase or cancel the outside noise. Noise isolating are much lower tech. A tiny speaker incorporated into a set of earplugs. They just try to block the outside noise from reaching your ear while getting the music or talk directly to your ear. I've tried both and I like the noise isolating ones better.

Do you all see what I have to deal with. Just try to have a simple conversation with this man.

By the way here are the exact words from the Westone website "up to 25 dB of ambient noise reduction"

Thats Me!!!!! "Just Plain Stupid"

I use both the Etymotic ER-20's and the ER-6i's. However, the ER-20's are the only thing I'd use on a motorbike or the Spyder because I prefer to listen out for engine noise, other vehicles and emergency sirens. Listening to music while riding is just plain stupid but that's only my personal opinion.

I have the ER-6is too. I like what the do and agree with Jetskier.
I have the BRP Sport Touring windshield and (VERY noisy) HJC Symax II. I get the low band wind rumble, but greatly reduced.

I wear glasses also, but I don't have any problem with the earbuds staying in place - or problems putting my helmet on or taking it off.

The music quality is very good, if not excellent, with the ER-6is, I am very happy with them.

I don't hear other traffic - this was expected, since I can hardly hear my leaf blower and when I wear them vacuuming, I cannot hear anything but the music. I really watch the road and my mirrors, but this is my normal mode after have some "surprises" occur behind me over the years.

I have only started wearing them on the Spyder, I have only been riding it for about 100 days and I wanted to get acclimated to it before I shut out a lot of the noise.

The biggest surprise for me was shifting. I thought I was getting a lot of clues on shifting from rev vibrations, I do on my BMW F650 GS. But on the Sypder I cannot really hear the engine and have really pushed the RPMs a lot higher than I do without the ER-6is working. There is not ( on my Spyder ) any real tactile feeling to tell me when to shift, so I have to watch the RPMs when I start out - something I never really had to do when I can hear the engine. ( I normally shift around 4k RPM )

The only other downside is that I play very upbeat music and I tend to drive to it - so my mileage has suffered somewhat.

Bottom line is: I like them and I don't ride the expressway without them.

Tom

From time to time I use my Sharp 350 earbuds and if I really want the quality low notes my Koss headset equalizer. On the long trips I like to listen to the music and not the engine As a source I use my iPhone.
I have noticed that the flatter (lower profile) the earbuds the better, as they don't get rammed into my ear by the helmet.
Oh, you can also take just the extra little rubber plugs with the hole in them and use them as ear plugs the work great.
Mike
