• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

error codes

How do you find the hidden error codes again please? He has a 09 RS. Had a rider here in town email me saying the bike went into LM with no error message. He turned the bike off and restarted and took it home. Might just be a brain fart, loose relay, or even the ground cable under the seat. I know there is a way to get the codes without the BUDS. Thanks

It's in the manual but here goes again:
1. Turn on the key.
2. Press the left hand button to acknowledge the startup warning thing and keep pressing it until hours are displayed on the dash
3. Press and hold both the left and right buttons
4. Toggle the high beam flashers 5 times quickly within two seconds.

You should see something like "no error codes" or it will report any active codes. If you don't see any change on the dash, repeat the process above starting at step 2.

Turn ignition key on
Press MODE button repeatedly to scroll to engine hour on gauge
Start engine and run until CHECK ENGINE light illuminates or aother fault message is displayed
Press and HOLD MODE button while pushing the "flash high beam" position rapidly 5 times. (must happened within 2 seconds)
Release all buttons
If there is no fault code the "No Active Fault Code " will be displayed
If there is a fault code it will be diaplayed.

If your pal cleared the limp mode there is likely no fault code. It does not latch every fault code that ever happens.

If the bike will not start you do all of the above except for starting the engine.

How have you been. I have been riding my new to me Spyder on two day outings and having a ball.

I just found out there was a DPS error message. Well! Thats getting it down to a nutshell huh? Thanks guys. Hope this info helps him...some.

Remember that only active fault codes will be shown on the display. Past codes have to be viewed in BUDS. The DPS error message is different, but is a result of whatever fault there was. Lots of possibilities here without pinning it down further. Some would require a dealer to correct.

Ok thanks Scotty.

I could be pretty wrong about this... :opps:
Since the DPS is such a huge load on the electrical system; wouldn't a check of the battery's condition kind of be in order? :dontknow:

Good question Bob. I'm sure he has the original battery. Desert summers can be brutal on a battery and this is his commute vehicle to Ft. Irwin where the temps are usually 10 degrees hotter than Barstow. Kinda like being in Palm Springs. I did suggest to him to check that ground connection under the seat. I know that could produce a LM. BTW, he was asking what can be done about the hot air hitting his right leg & foot. Its been a long while since I had the GS. What is everybody else doing for that?
