Enjoy your riding season!

As the new riding season arrives, I just thought that a little reminder won hurt anyone!
With all the new technology in today's vehicles, more drivers are easily distracted by focusing on the gadgets instead of the road! Although we can't control other drivers behavior, we can do our part to stay safe and enjoy the riding season!
Is very easy to get comfortable when we ride our vehicles ( and we should be comfortable) but, let's not forget that there are to many drivers out there driving under influence of drugs including prescription, alcohol or simply distracted!
Let's be aware of our surroundings, never be in a hurry to get there, don't do anything to upset other drivers and obey the laws of the land!
Although sometimes is impossible to avoid an accident, most of the time it can be avoided!
It is not my intention with this thread to tell you how you should drive your vehicle! My intention is to remind you of something that you probably already know, but we often forget!
I've been rear-ended twice and is not a pleasant situation!
With that been said, have a wonderful and enjoyable riding season! God bless all of us!

:agree: I hope everyone does have a SAFE enjoyable riding season.

Don't forget to be visible,( lights, etc. ) and be a ware of your surroundings. Keep the 3 wheels on the ground/ road.

When I am on the road, and behind a Tractor Trailer , I am back( but within the double yellow lines) far enough so I can see the driver in his/or her Mirror, and letting him/or her know that I am back there. Deanna

Good reminder - and as for being rear-ended, I've started leaving plenty of space between me and the vehicle I stop behind at lights and stop signs - enough space so that I can accelerate and go around them if I see a car coming up, too fast, from behind. I also watch that rear view mirror until I KNOW the car approaching from my rear is slowing down to stop.

I really wish our lawmakers would truly understand the dangers of texting while driving and make the penalties so huge and painful that people would be afraid to do it! :lecturef_smilie:

The 1st time.If I had move forward, I would have ran over the pedestrian that was in the middle of the street! The problem was the driver behind me playing with his cell phone!

The 2nd.time. the taxi driver thought that I was going to go through the red light!

Agree with you, Deana! When I'm on the road whether on the bike or the car, I look at the trailer license plate! If is an out of state vehicle i stay away from them, for it don't know how many logbooks the driver has on his or her glove compartment! If is from the state I'm at, well.... I stay away anyway!

You don't know how long they have been driving on the road, and how much sleep they have had.

Also, if I am able to pass them, I pass them (out of sight/out of mind). If they have an in-state/or out of state license plate, I stay away from them. Deanna

It is time they start to realize that cellphone use while driving is as bad as driving under the influence
If they would treat it the same as a DUI people might start using hands free and not texting

Expect the unexpected from every driver out there. Then, you won't be surprised when "stuff" happens.

We have already had our first fatality here. A man trying to elude police on a stolen crotch rocket, going 90 plus through downtown Eagle River, ran head on into a truck. End of driver, end of bike. This one was obviously the cyclists fault. And it was no punk kid, the guy was 43 years old and should have known better.

I have been riding for 40 years and got hit in the rear once! Always good advice you have given as we start a new riding season. May we all be safe!!
