• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Engine Ice coolant?

I performed a search here, and perhaps I missed, but I was wondering if anyone has tried "Engine Ice" coolant? Some of the Ducati riders I know swear that it drops the coolant temperature between 30 and 40 degrees. That's kind of hard to believe, but they insist that their bikes run much cooler and they feel confident that overheating will not occur.

I have had no issues of the Spyder overheating, but was just wondering (with the "suck-oven" heat upon us here in FL) if anyone has tried it.

I went to the Web site, and I am not so sure that this will meet BRP's coolant spec. If not, it could void your warranty for any related problem that occurs. There is little concrete information shown there, particularly as to corrosion protection. The risk/benefit assessment is up to you. If you decide to use it, let us know how it works out, especially in the long run.

Most of these items work the same - the reduce the surface tension and thus your bike will run cooler. The problem is that with a radiator as small as that on a motorcycle - the gains will be minimal at best.

Straight water would cool even better than these 'ice' formulations - but you certainly wouldn't want to run it.

I don't think the possible gains are worth messing with.

Thanks for the tech info. I searched around but apparently overlooked it. This should allow owners to make an informed decision. Still doesn't exactly meet BRP specs (which are vague), but sure looks like it has the right properties to protect aluminum motorcycle engines. :agree:

I was a member of a Yamaha Venture forum years ago. There were some threads on there about using a liquid soap made by Shaklee called Basic H.

Someone used arouind 6 oz. Basic H in the cooling system of his Venture and claimed it helped with the cooling. I never had cooling trouble with my old Venture, living in a northern climate.

I m thinkiing of giving this a try in the Spyder. I believe it is along the same principle as water wetter.

That, plus taking off the splash pans, like Lamont mentioned. Especially before the LA trip.;)
 
RedLine also makes an all-in-one pre mix coolant called supercool with waterwetter. The only thing that may concern some folks is this product does not contain anti-freeze and its freezing point is 32ºF or 0ºC. Use with a long-life antifreeze if freezing temperatures are to be encountered. That said, I guess if if you want the anti-freeze abilty and have to use long-life anti-freeze then just get the waterwetter only product and add it to your (brp, prestone, peak, etc...) coolant that your using.

Before reading this article...
I was at my local motorcycle repair shop this morning getting my Throttlemeisters that I ordered, and I mentioned that my spyder runs hotter now with the racing airflow system that I put on it. They told me to run the Engine Ice as that is what they put in all the custom racing bikes they build and work on there, and they also swear by it.

They were actually out of stock on this stuff, so I went to the dealership and got some. You would need to purchase 2 bottles to have enough (@ $21.99 per bottle).
 
Replacement. You have to use just the contents of this product, no mixing with anything else, water, etc.
