Emergency Release - Seat

Many RT owners have had problems with the seat latch releasing with the key and then finding it is extremely difficult to circumvent the system. Here is a cheap and easy way to set up and emergency release cable. All you need to do is get some bicycle brake cable and drill one hole. The cable can be found on Amazon for about $12.

Run the cable as shown. Hook one end to the existing latch and run the other end along the frame and out the hole under the right headlamp adjuster. When you need to use it, just remove the right side cover and give it a tug.

Curious...

Where you state to drill..... would help to explain the size hole as you must get the barrel tip through but not so large that the cable housing also slips through. I have seen some drill cable size hole and a slot to slide the cable to the drilled hole. The rest is straight forwad. :thumbup:

The hole is just a little bigger than the cable. I put the end piece on the cable after the cable was through the hole.

All you need is the cable with a loop on both ends. Don't need the housing.

Using the bicycle cable with the outer housing makes for a very smooth operation. The moving cable will not drag or get caught on the bike components.

Yes, absolutely correct. It is a slick set up and with the housing installed it's likely 100% reliable. I made a quickie set up using just a string made of tough nylon and looped it around the oil port and secured the end in the glove box. Kind of crude, but it works. No holes to drill and maybe 50% reliable but I like yours better. Thanks for your photos.

If you invest in a quality brake cable it will have a Teflon lining and it will pull smoother than deer guts on a door knob.

If an emergency open was installed on the Frunk---wouldn't we loose the security of having a locked compartment for personal items? I have the 2015 F3's & have heard from a few people that they accidentally left their keys in their jacket pocket to Frunk before closing the lid.

The emergency frunk release is hidden behind the left side cover. You would need to remove the cover and then find the cable. You also would need to know what the cable was for. There's a lot of variables there. If a thief really wanted to get into the frunk, all he would need to do is grab the hood near the latch, pull hard and break the latch.
