ELKA Shocks for the RT-S

I received my "letter" from BRP re: the DPS. I talked to my dealership tech about the installation. I also asked if it would be a good idea to install the Elka shocks that Lamont ultimately settled on at the same time. Tech said that would be a great idea.

Bottom line though is what is the product number or numbers for the set of Elka shocks that Lamont finally settled on for his RT-S? I believe they were the 300 lb ones, but I'd like to be able to order these simply by contacting Elka and giving a #. I'm very limited in mechanical experience and I don't want to have to answer questions that they might have.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like to be able to "Keep it simple stupid" and have them k now exactly what it is that I want.

Just a thought, Mouthpiece. The new DPS changed the way my RT steers just enough that I notice the difference. It takes less effort to steer it than with the old unit which has the effect of making it seem to steer a little quicker. For that reason, I would get the recall done before I did the Elka shocks or vice versa so I'd know exactly how the steering and handling was affected by each change. Of course, if I could save some money by getting it all done at once I might change my mind.

Thanks Lamont and Cotton for both of your responses. Cotton, your suggestion is well taken. I would think that in your case it would be like putting the cart before the horse.

However, my problem isn't so much the steering. In fact I'm in no real hurry to have the new DPS installed. Instead, I would like a bit "stiffer" shock when it comes to negotiating turns and "twisties". Admittedly we don't have many twisties in Flarda, but we do have some instances that my "nanny" has kicked in when making a sharp turn. My thinking is that the Elkas will help to alleviate this situation. It's not a real problem. It's just that I would like to have a stiffer set up.

I agree. I was having no problem with the old DPS unit. I will eventually save up enough money to get a stiffer swaybar and, if not Elka shocks, maybe the 2011 "re-calibrated" RT shocks. Something to reduce the body roll. We don't have many twisties in west Texas, either. I rode 56 miles yesterday afternoon to get eleven 90 degree sweepers just to try out the new DPS unit.

I kind of agree with Bikeguy; the swaybar would keep you from leanig over onto the bar-ends... It's also a heckuva lot cheaper fix than Elkas! :shocked:
