Did you purchase Elka shocks and have them pre set to you driving habits, weight and how much single or two up riding you do?
I own a 2010 RTS SE5
When I had Len at Pitbull set mine up I had them set for mostly single riding and a more aggressive riding style. I also recently installed 2014 wheels and tires on mine that are a lower profile tire which no doubt changes the ride to be a little more stiff.
Ultimately I liked the new handling characteristics (already had Ron's sway bar on which made a great improvement on body roll) but overall the ride was pretty hard on road conditions that were not real smooth.
i did some searches here on what some of you guys were setting spring lengths at which varied between 8 1/4" to 9". I also called Len at Pitbull and as always, he was more than happy to discuss setting ranges that I should keep the shocks within. He is the best, always will take time to talk to you whenever possible, loves to talk about Elkas and I only wish his store wasn't 1600 miles away. Mine was set at 8 1/2" and the damping setting was at 35. I adjusted the spring length to 8 7/8" and the damping to 32. I found that it made the ride considerably softer by this minor adjustment. I do have additional body roll but overall I like the change. I'm going to play around further with the settings and try to come up with a happy medium on both ends.
Im sure a lot of you guys have purchased Elkas and had them set up for you but don't be afraid to adjust them. Spray the threads down with WD40, jack up the front to take the load off the shocks and play around with the settings. It's real easy to do and minor adjustments can make a big difference.
