electronic whiz for iTouch (generation 1)

mp4 extension videos play on my iTouch. But, for some reason I get an error message for some mp4 extensions that they cannot be loaded to my iPod. Is it possible those mp4's have 'blocks' on them.

The mp4's in question have been purchased recently and I e-mailed the owner of those videos. I'm just waiting for a response. I thought I might get one quicker here.

I've also done a hard reset to see if that would help and it didn't.

No, they were purchased from the person/company who had them made. The other mp4's that do play on my iTouch were also purchased from some other individuals/companies and they do work.:dontknow:

mp4 is just a file format (carrier) the video in question as been encoded. It might be using a codec that is incompatible with the first gen iTouch. All is not lost as you can convert the format. If your on a Mac handbrake is a great tool for video conversion.

It's a free app and totally safe I use it all the time

Video LAN is a player for Mac and PC, it plays 99.9% of file formats out there. Again free and safe use that all the too.

If my iTouch works with all my other mp4's, why not with the ones I just downloaded from an internet site. I received word from the person I e-mailed. She said there is no 'block' and she is going to have someone look into it.

They could have encoded the files with the bit rate too high. They will either re-encode or you can convert yourself. It's not uncommon for this to happen.

With music mp3 files you can encode cd files with different bit rates, the higher bit rate means less compressions hence better sound, they're all still mp3 files. Video is the same but a lot more complex to encode, you can specify many factors such as frame rate, constant compression or variable compression plus many, many more options. If you look at the back of a blu ray movie you can see the specs it was encoded at, not all blu rays are the same, some are much better quality than others. The difference is they should all play because the hard ware handles it better and there is more control in the encoding process.

Thanks for the offer. But, this a.m. I gave it one last shot. I have a trial version of Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate. I clicked on the device tab and chose iPod and that's when I noticed what the problem was. The original file was 1920*1080 and was converted to 640*480; not sure if that's pixels or not. I was then able to load to my iTouch.
