• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Electric Spyders on the way

 Was it something that I said? :dontknow:

NO. Just a simple reminder since there is a lot of back and forth (which is good) going on.

Differing opinions are fine. It's how they are handled that sometimes causes trouble.

Tesla is actively working on their PowerStations.
While that grid of charging stations has a long way to go: it's at least a decent start..
If they can reach some sort of agreement with them... :dontknow:

AND if they can sort out any incompatibility issues... :opps:

Tesla is part of the problem. The are using charging stations that do not meet industry standards and do not use standard connectors. Nor will they licence any other brand to use them. Until the infighting is settled, its not going to happen. Can you imaging if there were ford and toyota gas stations and only those brands could fill there? Nope, lots of issues to work out and some are not technical.

:D Yup! :agree:
If everybody could just get on the same page and do some actual co-operating: this whole issue could be solved in about ten years! :roflblack:

BRP locked down some "E-Bike" patents in order to freeze out the competition.
Then they sat on the technology...
Zero is currently building about the best of the battery-powered bikes, and have a model that can surpass 200 miles on a single charge.
If BRP can't match or top that: I'm not interested.

Wow Bob, 200 miles? Camille and I have Specialized brand E-Bikes (Bicycles) that will do 90 miles on a charge. You are obviously talking Motorcycles here but that is pretty good. Has that Tiffin Wayfarer arrived yet?

Jack

Neighbor's Tesla 3 put out 215 miles in cold wx (i.e. Maine and Quebec) and 285 miles in the summer it takes 45 minutes for a full charge at a Tesla Super charger. Thats with an 70 KW/h battery. Tons of recharging stations, just do a search on Google many more in Canada. The engines are much more reliable as is the drivetrain (in my opinion). I figure in 5-years or so they'll be practiable even for those 400 mile trips. Given the maintenance on a Spyder I take an electric model in a heartbeat.

Doesn't the Zero utilize some sort of swap-able battery setup, meaning one is in use and one is in "storage" waiting to be used?
I'm not an engineer, but what would it take to design some sore of regenerative system via either braking energy or a small gasoline engine that could recharge the second battery while in storage? Or the main one while being used? Is the drain on the battery being used greater that the recharge capacity of a gas engine? Or does that defeat the entire purpose?

.... BRP (aka Bombardier) ....
Minor correction. The Bombardier name applies to the airplane and light rail company. Starting in 2004 BRP, Inc. is now the name for what used to be Bombardier Recreational Products. https://www.brp.com/en/about-us/our-story.html. BRP was spun off from Bombardier in 2003 and is a separate company from Bombardier. The name Bombardier no longer applies to the recreational products company.

Interestingly, every electric motorcycle has the rider in a "humping a watermelon" riding position. The mfrs. must be blind to the fact that over half of MC sales are feet forward cruisers and they sell to a more mature and solvent clientele. I have fancied having an electric errand runner, but I can not ride what's out there.

Electric Spyders are going to be available within the next couple of years, I think.

Taiga Electric Snowmobile. https://electrek.co/2018/03/03/tesla-inspired-taiga-electric-snowmobile/

It can be done, BRP (aka Bombardier) better be paying attention.

I began snowmobiling when I moved to Vermont in 1976 ( 37 years of ownership ) and countless numbers of different machines ….. There is NO WAY that. that Electric snowmobile or any other snowmobile ( of any horsepower ) can go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. …. It's physically impossible, the snowmobile is a VERY low traction machine …. and if you have NO traction you just spin the track, been there done that 100's of times. I'd be very wary of a company that makes outrageous claims. ………….JMHO ….. Mike :ohyea:

Before you make such a broad pronouncement: Have you ever studded a track, and run on lake ice?
Traction IS the key component to acceleration. Once you've got that sorted out: I have no doubt that today's hyper-sleds can make that mark!

… And I started riding in the mid-sixties, and lake-raced for 15 years... (1993 to 2008)
